None of the above--im a dog person and actually have allergies to cats ^^'

That said, IF I were getting a cat, id look into the breed traits and see if its a good match.  Personality is big.  Same with a  dog.  You are looking for a specific set of characteristics that will mesh well with you and your lifestyle.

I'm generally drawn towards grey kitties with white tummies. But really my cats chose me, not the other way around.

I've never had a cat before, but dogs / guinea pigs I've simply chosen based on which animal I was drawn to. Let's face it, when you've got a litter of puppies or guinea pigs in front of you, they're all going to be adorable. Much easier to choose based on personality, rather than looks.

I put Important as it is part of what draws me to a cat, but if that cat doesn't seem very friendly then I'll just keep looking!

This pretty much sums it up for me too. Looks draw me to specific animals and breeds but if the animal isn't well suited to what we can offer, doesn't like us, etc then of course we wouldn't pick them just because of how they look.

Looks don't ultimately matter but I am naturally drawn to black cats and blue tuxedos.  I don't particularly like the way standard brown tabbies look but I have two and wouldn't part with them.

I kinda really like calico cats and black ones, my first kitty was a calico.

I adopted two rescues a month ago, both Tortoiseshell sisters. When I was searching through literally hundreds of cats what caught my attention first was their appearance, then their names (which I find important even if I rename them).
They all have a paragraph about personality but you can't truly know a cat until you meet it - their personality is the decider. I would never adopt a cat just because I thought it was cute if it didn't like me. Our first meeting was to check if the cats were a good fit and wanted to be a part of the family, it was more their decision honestly.

Personality is so much more important than coat color, especially with cats which don't have a lot of distinct breeds, unlike dogs.  Like yes, there are lazy Persians and loud Siamese, but most cats are just "cat".  And my half-Siamese kitty isn't loud at all and ended up being built like a linebacker!

As a kid we had an unfriendly grey and black striped tabby, so I had negative feelings about the color.  But when I went to the pound a tiny grey and black tabby kitten stuck his paw through the bars and meowed at me.  He was the only kitten to notice me, the others were busy playing.  Of course I had to get him and now I think that coat color is beautiful.  :)

I don't think it's important at all. I have three cats, and they're all radically different from one another personality wise, even though two are sisters so they look similar to one another.

It doesn't matter.  With cats, personality counts most.

Definitely personality matters. I have chosen based on colour though, when I was faced with a litter of kittens who behaved essentially the same way over a short span of time and had to choose. I always rescue though, so it's usually not an issue. Cat is there, cat gets rescued, then we get to know each other. I once got a cat from helping clean out a friend's abandoned, trashed rental home.. he leapt out of the kitchen cupboard into hubby's face! Thankfully hubby was quick, or he'd have ended up a street cat, he was so scared.

We currently have a neighbourhood stray cat, she won't go inside anyone's house, but she's starting to like our family (we've been trying to get her inside for years) so she gets fed at our place twice daily, and people from around the neighbourhood drop things off for her at our gate, like flea powder, worming pastes, bowls and food. She doesn't get along with our cat Ra (siamese x burmese, so drama queen kitty), so we don't force her inside (we tried once and she jumped out a 2nd storey window!), and she lives under our neighbour's house most of the time. Her fur is starting to get dull, so I'd say she's probably nearing her end. She must be pretty old though, she was no kitten when I moved in 9 years ago. A shame though, she's just starting to become affectionate towards us, and only hisses occasionally now. I'd say she was abused, because she's quite a beautiful cat (grey and white), and she's fixed, and wild cats are actually easier to tame than she is, she definitely knows the drill.

To be perfectly honest, if I see any cat, anywhere, I fall in love. :lookround: So I can't say that colour is important. :P

I'm drawn more to the cats personality than coat color. My longhair calico is gorgeous, but my grey and white shorthair is my favorite because her personality is better than the calico's lol.

Well, I always wanted an orange cat. But so far I've had 12 cats in my life (7 are still with us now), and so far none have been orange. So I guess not! All of our cats are rescues, and they each have their own unique personalities. That is much more important than color.
