Ponies you thought exsisted but don't
« on: September 28, 2017, 07:06:24 PM »
When I was very young I thought I saw a Gusty family in the store that included Baby Gusty, adult Gusty and Daddy Gusty. Of course now I know that there's no Daddy Gusty unless someone had commissioned a custom and I guess what I saw was the Apple Delight family but I remember telling my mom I wanted the set with the Daddy and adult Gusty.

Did you ever think a pony existed and then found out that it didn't?

I would have sworn that there was a orange sparkle male pony in a childhood friends collection.   It must have been Sunspot, but I can still picture it so clearly

When I first saw Friendship is Magic, I swore I had a G1 as a child that looked just like Celestia. When I dug up the ponies my mom saved, all I could find was Windy. I'm sure I was just misremebering her, but for a while I felt like I must be missing one.

Paradise :'(

For me it was mostly the other way around as I thought ponies didn't exist (Scoops, Truly, Cupcake) and then it turned out they did xD.

But I did think I once saw a walking pose Sweet Suds in someone else's collection. When she sold her collection, though, she only had the regular Sweet Suds so I guess I got confused...

I could have sworn that a girl I played with when I was 4 had Princess Tiffany in Surprise's pose. I was absolutely sure until I came online and found pony sites. However, the Surprise pose was the only pegasus pose I knew, so it makes sense that I thought she was in that pose, and after all they're not THAT different. Especially when you're 4.

I was also absolutely sure that I saw a black or at least very dark brown pony in a toystore once, I must have been 5. I spent ages trying to find her online, but now I'm pretty sure it was Caramel Crunch I saw. Especially because I get a very strong nostalgic feeling everytime I see a picture of her, even though I've never owned her. I didn't even know her from pamphlets or anything.

Oh, and I thought Baby Sunset was Baby Shady. :P

For me it was mostly the other way around as I thought ponies didn't exist (Scoops, Truly, Cupcake) and then it turned out they did xD.

This too! I had a lot of comics when I was little, and many of the ponies I saw in them were never sold here (or before my time, as I'm from '87). For example, it wasn't before 2007 that I found out that "butterfly ponies" (Wingers) actually existed.

I always wanted a Regular Non So Soft Paradise but even So soft Paradise was never sold in the UK. Baby Sundance was another without beddy-bye eyes and with the Molly like friends. They would have been really cute.

I could have sworn that I saw a set (like the slumber party gift pack) that had a boy pony in it.  He was orange but wasn't Wigwam.

I could have sworn my childhood BBE Baby Heart Throb had winged hearts as her symbol instead of plain hearts.

She didn't. :(

I don't own any of the comics, but I wish I did. I can see how easy it would be to assume some ponies were only created for the comics if you never saw them in stores.

It's nice to know I'm not the only one who thought I saw a pony that wasn't made.

When I was little I had a friend who I SWORE had a white rainbow baby unicorn with rainbow stars and a blue baby sparkle pony with a bird for a symbol. I've spent years trying to figure out who they were. I still can see them in my mind in her living room!

Argentina Starshine!

I was sad when I found out there wasn't one, especially since there is an Argie Moonstone.

One day my friend wanted to give me a pony she knew she had but couldn't find it. I asked what she looked like and described her as the size of a G1 looking shyly off in to the distance with a yellow body, orange hair, and butterflies for a symbol. I had no idea who it was, and in high hopes but not quite expecting it, I pictured Butterscotch in the shy pose as a nirvana. She then gave me a G3 McDonald's Rainbow Dash. >_< Little disappointing that the pony didn't exist, but it was still funny

Not so much that these ponies don't exist, but I swear I remember seeing a Tux and Satin box set as a child in stores.  Later as an adult and finding the arena and dream valley, learned I was wrong.  Maybe a memory of the mail order brochures got pasted on top of another memory in my brain.
