She doesn't look bad but i already have the first one, so that's a no.

Her wings remind me of the Sarah Bella horses which are cheap cardboard.

If she's the same as the first it's not cardboard, just really thin plastic with sticker on it.

 from an engineering standpoint the wings might have needed to be lightweight to make the flipping work

Yeah, I think they had to minimize the wings for mechanical reasons.  I have the original one and it really is pretty amazing that the toy does a proper flip every time, considering the size / weight of it.
