Pony Pores?!?
« on: July 25, 2017, 12:12:57 PM »
Ok, this is my first de-flock. I've researched a lot on how it's done and everything, but I've not come across anything that mentions this.
I did the body just fine. So I started the head. It's all going good, but once I started removing the glue, I noticed these teeny holes covering her cheek, ear, and under her chin. They're everywhere on the head, but those spots are most noticeable.
I've heard of problems with ingrained dirt, but there's no dirt in these. They're just...pores?

I'm guessing this has to do with the flocking? I really have no clue. I was wondering if anyone else has come across this before.

Woah, this is weird! It might be mold that got into the vinyl's existing pores and ate away ate material or broke it down, causing the large pores. It looks like she had a beard planned, but they gave up halfway and decided to cover up their mistake by flocking her :silly: I do agree with noxluc, it looks like someone didn't tap the air bubbles out and they didn't care because the flocking would cover it, especially since the large pores are on one side only.

I've seen something like this on a Tex a long time ago. It's similar but not the same I think.. I'm not sure what it is though

This is a factory error, its not that common but it happens here and there. No need to worry :)

I had a baity Firefly like this. It was a real pain to paint her, she just absorbed all the paint like a sponge.

Looks like you'll have to put the flocking back on.

It looks exactly like ingraint dirt that has been removed...... can't it be that the dirt has come off together with the flocking?

I have a few ponies who appear to have the same problem, only they had ingrained dirt (pin dot) in those teeny holes. My theory is that the plastic has started to break down, allowing the dirt to settle into the holes. And they are a pain in the neck to clean. It is interesting that there is no dirt in your pony's holes, but perhaps that is due to the fact that it was kept out by the glue and the flocking covering them?

What do our more experienced pony people say?
