do kid hands make for frizzy hair?
« on: July 21, 2017, 09:28:07 PM »
ive been letting my niece play with some of my collection (with supervision...), my g4s in particular, since she loves them so much. she really likes to play with the pearlies. when i got them they obviously had greasy box hair, so i gave them detergent baths and their hair went right to soft and silky. but since she has been playing with them, their hair has frizzed and poofed out! i watch her pretty carefully, shes not playing with them any rougher than I would play with them, it seems like she just touches them and they become a disaster. is this just the natural order of things, or are g4s more prone to this, or what? i let her play with some g3s/g1s, and havent noticed that big of a change.

I think the G4 hair is easier to frizz, anyone else agree with this?

Most of the G4 i find at thrift are frizzed pretty bad and doesn't seem as good a quality as G1 hair.

I'm keeping my eye out to see what the experts say about it here....

It's also possible she treats the earlier ponies more gently knowing they're old and the G4s more gently in front of you because you're watching, and she might be rougher on the G4s when you're not but that's not necessarily the case.

It certainly feels like it. I wonder why that is. Maybe just their size combined with how long their hair is?

Nope. That's just how it is. Too much or too little brushing.

Yes, I think the G4s are more prone to frizz, especially the latest few waves. I think Hasbro is using cheaper hair.

Can confirm G4 hair is much poorer quality than G1 hair, alas.
The individual hairs seem thinner and weaker?  That would account for how easily they frizz.  Any kind of handling/pulling stretches the nylon.
G1 Wishlist  It's the final countdown! Looking to purchase the last few G1's for my collection - Watercolor Baby Sea Ponies Foamy, Misty & Surfy - Red Roses - SHS Sweet Sundrop - Springy - Teeny Tiny Snookums (#2)

There is a big quality decline between the earliest G4s and the ones now. They just cheap them out even more. Kind of insulting considering how small they are and how much money G4 has generated for Hasbro.

Thankfully it's not beyond saving. I restored a couple of flea market ponies' hair just fine. But it took much more time than flea market G3s with the same kind of hair problems.
