Euro Baby Buttons - what is wrong with her?
« on: July 18, 2017, 09:41:24 AM »
Hooo boy... I haven't posted here in a while, have I?

Anyhow, I have recently decided to come back to collecting after a "short" break. I purchased several G1 pony from a former collector including baby Buttons.

I was aware that the poor girl had a couple flaws including a couple age spots (on her nd side and underneath her belly thankfully). But once she arrived I noticed something strange about one of her spots. Here's a pic:

I'm not sure how accurately can it be seen on the photo, bc of the lighting and so on, so I'll try to describe it in addition: so what you basically have here is a spot (age spot?) that is surrounded by this light-pinkish ring on the outside. It kinda looks like the pink, itchy ring on your skin after getting bitten by a tick.

So yeah, my question is what exactly can it be? An age spot? A regrind? A burn? Or perhaps a combination of a few of those?

I gotta admit I'm a little confused because this doesn't look like any of the classic examples of any of those, and I couldn't find any information on whether or not Baby Buttons is prone to regrind.

Therefore I'm turning to you for help, plus any advice if and how can this particular flaw be dealt with.

Many thanks in advance. :*

Yes that is an age spot.  The plastic is breaking down.  Not much you can do to slow it except try to create more strict archival conditions for it.  But you cannot STOP it.
at least it's  on the NDS?  :(  Sorry you discovered it happening!

The light area around the brown age spot may be bleached as a result of acne cream. Some collectors use acne cream to try to remove stains, but it eventually causes the body color to fade as well. I suspect someone tried to fade the age spot with acne cream, not knowing that it wouldn't work, but would only affect the surrounding body color.
Nirvana grails:  Reverse Gusty (upgrade), Peru Windy and Moonstone (upgrade), Brazil TAF upgrades, Argie Powder w/ white hair (upgrade), French Windy and Moondancer (upgrades), Spain TAF's, TE's, and piggies.  These are my biggest wants, but I'm looking for tons more nirvanas, especially Greeks, Brazilians, and Peruvians.  Feel free to PM me for sales or trades.  But please note that I'm also fairly picky.

^^this. Looks like acne cream damage to me. Hopefully it wasn't on that long and the fading will stop, otherwise you might end up with an Appaloosa! Sorry to see that someone damaged such a htf pony, it sucks when you get something and it isn't as nice as you were expecting!

Aw, pity!  At least it's her NDS, luckily.  She looks like a beautiful pony otherwise :)

That, or someone tried to sun-fade the spot. The result would pretty much be the same.
