USPS decide not to deliver mail on July 3?
« on: July 03, 2017, 02:18:01 PM »
I'm very upset about our lack of mail delivery today. Not because I am waiting for something (I am, but...) but because I have had 4 packages waiting in my box since 9:30 a.m. to go out. Our mailman usually comes around 1-2 p.m. but if he's off, the time can vary. It's now after 5 p.m. and still nothing. As far as I know it's never been this late. Tomorrow is a holiday so no mail then either. So I'm not happy. Does anyone know if USPS changed holiday days this year? When I looked up their website it says they recognize the actual holiday not the day before. I need to get these packages out ASAP and it's not desirable to pack up a toddler in a car and take a 40-minute car ride to mail these.

AFAIK the US postal service only has July 4th off, not the 3rd.  I just looked up their list of holidays and July 3rd wasn't on there . . . Sorry your mail didn't come, that sucks!  I wonder if your regular postal carrier took a vacation day and the substitute carrier messed up or something?

I guess it's possible if your post office is 40 minutes away that they might not of been fully staffed?

I received my mail today.

But it might not be necessary to go to the post office to drop off the mail. It won't be picked up from the PO till Wednesday anyway, so you might as well wait for pick up at your home on Wednesday (assuming you'll be home).

I got my mail today. If your regular postman was off today and you had someone different they might have skipped your house for some reason. I'm sorry your mail didn't get delivered/picked up. That is never fun.

I got my mail today, but sometimes I have had no mail and if I have no mail the carrier doesn't come to pick up my packages.

I got my mail today, but sometimes I have had no mail and if I have no mail the carrier doesn't come to pick up my packages.

Even if I don't have mail, my carrier will pick up my mail. Especially since I have several neighbors. Although I live just outside city limits, it's not like I live in the boonies. We just don't have anywhere close to mail anything.

Fortunately the mail finally came just before 6 pm. They must have just been very short-staffed today. I have never seen it come so late. If I would have known, I would have had my husband take it with him to work and have him drop it off when he had a chance.
