@Taffeta  I found the first volume of Horimiya today.  I'm holding you responsible for getting me interested in it. :D

Oh what!! I was excited when I started reading your post since the one thing giving me pause about buying the Eternal editions has been the size (I LOVE the bigger size but they would take up more space), so the thought of that edition in a smaller size was nice... but no colour pages?!? Surely those are one of the main draws of the Eternal edition? Gah.

I've doubled and (tripled) checked the NT edition of Etenral just to be sure that wasn't overlooking any color pages and only the very first page of the book is in color. :(  All the rest of the pages have returned to black and white.  There's also a Barnes and Noble exclusive edition but it just has a small pull out poster inside.

I soooo behind Yona that I may need re read as refresher...
Sooo many mangas/ novels to read just enough hours in day :b

I probably need to reread Yona too as I've forgotten a lot of the details that happened at the beginning of the story.

There's so many series that I want to start that I haven't yet but will eventually read them.

I bought Fly Me to the Moon 4 today.  I'm hoping that I will be able to get the other volumes in the series a bit easier (volume 4 is officially out of print until the Fall).

I will take that burden with pleasure ;)

I had to reread Yona through from the start in order to remember everything. Vol 38 comes out next week. I won't pretend I don't have massive concerns for the characters in this series with every new volume. But eh.

I'm going to read Yuukoku no Moriarty. *nods*.

Thanks for the heads-up, anyway - if I'd have seen these smaller editions before seeing your post, I'd probably have picked them up and then been annoyed when I realized they were missing the colour pages XD

I've found official douchinjis by the original author and I've been binging them repeatedly even if most of them are not translated. For some, I can guess the context but for others I REALLY wish I knew even a little Japanese to get the context, as the dialogue suggests heavy feelings and dangit I need more heart-to-heart with this couple!

Just the sheer fact sensei is continuing the series after so long seriously makes my heart glow  :lovey: This was one of the very first manga I ever bought, the first in the yaoi genre, and was my gateway to it. After so many years, to find out there was a series continuing and there were even official doushins? I seriously cannot explain the pure joy radiating from my heart at it!!

Doujinshi are usually written by secondary parties so that's kind of cool. Although you didn't mention which series you meant, are you talking about the same one you mentioned before?

I started learning Japanese back in 2007 because I wanted to read the Fushigi Yuugi novels and they were only translated into German. Turned out that I made the right call as they're still not translated into English...;)

I ended up with a whole pile of doujin for one community a while back because they came with a bunch of the drama cds and song cds that I wanted. So I did translate some bits of it for people online and the manga-based ones are not too difficult. The textbased ones are more like little mini-novels or short stories and are a lot more complex.

It's FAKE by Sanami Matoh. I managed to find a couple of them scanlated, but others are untranslated. They are explicit, and go by the name 'Backstage Pass', and I don't see them going up on Amazon soon. I'm super, SUPER lucky that 4 parts of the new series HAVE been translated officially and put up on Amazon by sensei, I just wish she could do the same with the side stories as there seem to be a lot of moments of heart-to-hearts that I really want to read (especially a couple that seem to be Ryo opening up. In the main series old AND new he's very reserved so it's KILLING me not knowing what he's saying!).

I don't know how to contact the scanlation team that did the original scanlations of a couple of the doushinjis otherwise I'd ask for the rest or at least a couple of pages so I can get context!

That sounds vaguely familiar although I know I've never read it, I think I must've seen it mentioned way back when LJ communities were still a thing. Does it have an animated OVA or something? I can't remember now, but I definitely recall hearing the name before.

I'm really strict on only translating sfw stuff, not just because tumblr has rules but because otherwise I'd get swamped by this particular (non-yaoi) fandom to translate literally everything, and I really don't want to do more than I choose to do (translation takes time and effort, after all). But also because my main focus is the drama cds, and so any doujin and gaiden stuff happened as a coincidental diversion.

But it is a good idea to try and reach out to the original scanlate group if you can. The trouble with these is that they form and disintegrate pretty fast over time, especially since I have a feeling this is an older series? If it is the one I think it is.

However, if you have the older scanlates there ought to be a group name on them and thus a way maybe to contact or track back to see if you can find any of them.

But even if you can't get in touch with them, there may be other scanlators who deal with yaoi doujinshi who would pick it up.

I've done translation stuff but never as part of a group so I'm not sure how that would work, but I know that even in the community I translate dramas and stuff for, there is a pretty active group who work on 'rare pairing' doujin translations, and it's not even a yaoi community. SO. yeah.

...Or you could learn Japanese, as a last resort ;)

FAKE did have an OVA, I've seen it and it's ... not very good, the manga is far superior and I think it was a mistake to make it a one-off rather than a series, as the main series is very much a blend of the criminal cases Dee and Ryo work on, as well as them gradually falling in love (well, more like Ryo realising he IS falling in love, Dee has already decided Ryo is the man for him lol)

The doushins are VERY recent, they are done in sensei's new style. The original series was printed in English and is now available on Kindle with new covers in the new style. I've found the scanlations and normally I see a group name, but I don't see one, just names of the translators. I would love to order them directly from sensei's website but I don't know how to do that lol one day when I win the lottery I will literally hire someone to do that for me. The fact that these Backstage Passes are explicit makes me feel they won't go to Kindle, but I would need to check as I remember there being controversy over Saga being censored because of a single image ... I wonder if titles like Viewfinder are on Kindle. If they are, then the doushins should be fine to be translated, but that's up to sensei and not me.

The problem with a name like FAKE is that trying to post on Tumblr about it gets awkward with the tags! I find more success using the manga-ka's name than the series name. I BELIEVE I pulled the scanlations of two doushins off LJ when it was still around in the dying days

Ah, then it is the one I'm thinking of. Back when I first heard about it, there was only the OVA and it was a long time before I spoke Japanese, iirc, so I never pursued it at all. But it's not uncommon for that to happen. I don't really like OVA when there's no proper series around it. (Sotsugyou M - also very old now - is one of those. There's a pretty horrible if slightly amusing OVA that sometimes does the rounds on YT but the whole of the rest of the franchise, novels, manga, drama cds...etc has never been translated into English and is basically unknown outside of Japan.).

That makes it more complicated, if it's not a fan scanlate but an official translation :/ But I still think it'd be worth hitting up groups that specialise in yaoi scanlations and seeing whether they're interested. ALTHOUGH if some original stuff is being produced now and in translation, it may just be a waiting game.

I've never tried to read manga on kindle. So I don't know how that works or what their rules are :/

I can see the problem with the name although when I put FAKE doujinshi into google I did come up with a bunch of hits around backstage pass. So maybe if you keep digging? Though they may be what you already saw. Be careful about the spelling of doujinshi when you search, it might help you find better results.

I read Yona 35 today.  :)  Now I'm caught up until 36 comes out in the US.

Spoiler
Some parts of 35 are a little confusing to me though.

I want to finish Takane and Hana soon too.

Things like Meinyan? And, well, Meinyan?

I ordered 38. It comes out tomorrow, so it should ship then.

I started reading Yuukoku no Moriarty. There are already quite a few detail differences from the anime which surprised me.

Will being driven to work at the university in horse drawn cart was amusing. I am sad they didn't animate it. Oh well.

Meinyan is very confusing. :dizzy:

I'm not sure yet but I think the US releases are going to slow down after 36 comes out. Viz has been following a pretty steady schedule for Yona in the US, usually putting a new volume in print every 2 months but it looks like 37 won't be out until October.  I'm assuming it's because the US releases are almost caught up with the Japanese ones and Viz needs more time to get them ready for the US market.

Meinyan is indeed super confusing. O.o.

Spoiler
Though I LOVED Yona entirely owning the people from Minami-Kai and shocking Keishuk into the bargain, that was awesome xD

That would make sense, as it's almost caught up. They've actually done a great job when you consider where they are with Daiya. Still stuck in the middle of the autumn tournament of Act I, I think you said?

Speaking of Daiya...
Spoiler
Into the eighth innings O.o.

I'm reading Yuukoku no Moriarty, but I accidentally managed to not get book 3 when I bought the manga, so I now need to wait for it to arrive. It's coming with Yona 38. The story that's in book 3 is in the anime, so it's not like I don't know what it is, but I feel like I want to read it properly, given there are already some detail differences.
Spoiler
I feel like John and Sherlock's meeting and his becoming Sherlock's roommate makes more sense in the manga. But I also think that with the Noahtic story, the anime adds some details in around one of the characters that actually helps the narrative seem more tied together.

Vol 38 of Yona arrived today.

Spoiler
I am going to put this in double spoiler tags but
Spoiler
Everyone is still alive! Woot. Well. Possibly excepting Zeno, but you know, that kind of doesn't count. Although I remain pretty worried about things in general.
Spoiler
I also think Suwon is about to crack, and as for Keishuk...

Also, on the obi was an advert note about a cafe in Tokyo which for the next 6 weeks is Yona themed. I mean, if they can do a themed Yona cafe and can publish 38 volumes of manga, why we have no more anime? Seriously!.

I also finally got the missing volume of Yuukoku no Moriarty so I could continue reading. I'm up to vol 5 now.

Spoiler
Good grief, the Baskerville story is horrible. Even if it does have some nice Louis character moments and one Louis and Will brotherly exchange. It's still horrible.

I'm not very familiar with real Sherlock Holmes stories beyond seeing a few televised adaptations and am deliberately not trying to find out beyond what I already know, so I'm not sure to what extent it follows Conan Doyle's real narratives of Sherlock's cases. Some of it is quite brutal. Some of the manga stuff also isn't animated, so there's some additional background and character information in there.

Spoiler
There's an irony in the fact that, despite being the ringleader and the puppet master, William is probably the softest of the three Moriarty brothers when it comes to other people. O.o.
