Helping non-collectors is fun!
« on: June 29, 2017, 09:13:36 AM »
One of my non-pony collector friends found some of her old MLP's so I said I would help her ID them. This is so much fun! ^_^

Her: Ok. Purple pony with white flowers. 1982

Me: Earth pony, right? No uni horn or wings? That's Blossom. Does she have flat feet or concave feet? They released her twice lol.

Her: Flat

Me: OOOO! Hold on to her!

Her: Grey stallion, treasure chest, has a pirate hat 1987

Me: Barnacle! Omg You have his hat!!
Thank you Thimble for my amazingly cute avatar!

I love doing that too!

A cashier last weekend started talking about her favorite pony when she was a kid and I was able to ID it as Firefly for her and she was super excited to know the name because she wanted one lol.

Yeah, I love doing that too! I took an art class a few months ago and mentioned I collected ponies... one of the gals in my class had a bunch when she was a kid and she was telling me about them, but she couldn't remember any of their names. And I was just like, "Oh yeah, that's Tappy, and that's Seaflower, and that's Lickety Split, and..."

It's nice to know that my pony knowledge comes in handy sometimes. LOL.

I'm a collector now and I still need help with ID sometimes.  It's a valuable service!  I'd be lost without Strawberryreef.  The help I got from pony friends doing this for me really got me hooked.

Dragonflitter, nice job resisting temptation to take advantage of that innocent person!  "oh, flat foot is no good I'll trade you a better pony" -holds out Bride pony "and that pirate hat, no one likes that, here have this peachy for that" har har.

This is a hard one for me. I can't remember the names of the G3's.  I mean some of them but not all, but I can send people to the website.  You amaze me that you did this Leave a Whisper Girlie!

I love doing this, however with me it's usually 'an old pink pony'. I never get obvious or even short-listable ones! Text me a pic and it's core 7 pinkie or something, lol.

This is what happened the first time i needed a non-G4 identified...Yup, Pinkie Pie.  My first pony actually, found in the trash and ignored until I got into G4.

Fortunately for me I really love G3 Pinkie Pie.  I especially love her voice.

My dad goes to flea markets a lot, and he's always so shocked when I can identify what generation they are just by a glance. He kind of forgets the information I send him about how to identify the different gens, let alone mlp from fakie, but he's moved on to actually looking at the bottom of the hoof, which helps him (and me) a lot!
