Do you know Sylvanian Families...?
« on: June 29, 2017, 06:26:24 AM »
Hey all!  Found these little cuties yesterday at the thrift store and am starting my research on them.  Is anyone familiar with them?  My head is already spinning!  All are marked Epoch, 1985-1988

Nice find! :)

The brown/orange dogs are Doughty chiffon dogs, looks like you have the mum, dad, brother and sit/crawl twin set. The brother's shirt looks like it might be original and I think the dad's overalls are original too (though he's missing a shirt). Not sure if the crawling baby's clothes are original or not - they look like they are Sylvanian but idk if they belong to him or not.

Yellow bears are the Osborne bears :) I think they're called Sunshine bears in the US.

The babies in the cribs - brown one is a Moss red deer baby, the two next to it are Pettyfur guinea pigs. The grey and white rabbit baby is a Cottontail baby. The white bunny baby is either a Snow-Warren baby or Sophie Snowbunny, I'm not sure from the pic.

The frog girl isn't Sylvanian, I think she may be a Woodzeez? I'm not familiar with them so I'm not certain, sorry.

The furniture does look all Sylvanian but I couldn't help ID those, I don't pay a lot of attention to which pieces come in which sets tbh ^^; if that makes sense. I hope this helps though :) I love Sylvanians.

Thank you so much! That was a  huge help. ^.^ I think the green girl is a turtle missing her shell.  Is there a form for
Sylvanian familes or would it be better to just tell them on eBay?

The turtle is a li'l woodzeez. There is a pretty big forum for Sylvanian Families / Calico Critters... but i haven't been on there in some years... they changed domains since I was last actively chatting with people but I think it was one of the larger communities?  ^.^ http://sylvanianfamiliesforum.co.za/phpbb/index.php

That's awesome!

I'm kind of confused... I could of sworn I had every set in the late 80s but those families aren't familiar to me (in the way of being that vintage).

They're more recent sets :) the Cottontails were early 2000s I believe and the others were released around the 2010s IIRC. Dunno why they'd be marked with a 1980 date but maybe it's like how G1 ponies were marked with the year the mold was made and not the pony?

After the initial run, SFs were renamed "Calico Critters" for North America (not sure why - I know the rumour back in the day was that there were copyright issues w/ the Sylvania lightbulb company but idk if there's any truth to that or not) and that's what they're currently released as over there. (They're still called Sylvanians everywhere else, though, it's weird.)

Hm I dunno.
There were no dogs, guinea pigs or deer. Bears look different (evergreen family was original grey bear.) Babies didn't have holes in the mouth.

I can say the white crib looks to be the same mold. Maybe it's the furniture that's the same mold?

I thought the animals had little gold stickers with the maker/year rather than on the body. But that's my memory and I could be wrong.

Funny story. I thought as a kid calico critters were fakes... And refused to own them. :'( argh. All the families missed out on.

All the SFs I've seen have stickers on their feet, yeah. I'm *pretty sure* I've never seen one with body markings but admittedly I don't think I've ever closely looked at SF bodies to be certain XD

I know there were definitely vintage deer critters. They don't look like the one in the photos here and I'm pretty sure most(all?) of the ones here are more modern releases.  ^.^ I always used this list someone made to get an idea of what there was... it lists almost all the figures up to 2010 from the US, UK and Japan
http://www.sylvanian-families.net/MyCollection.html

These are the deer they made back then in the UK http://www.sylvanian-families.net/Families/UKMossDeer.html... definitely a grail set of mine lol.

I have a pony that's from a Sylvanian Family.  I'm starting to forget what it looks like though...

I know there were definitely vintage deer critters.

I guess I was referring to vintage as what was called "Sylvanian Families" in the USA when I said no deer. http://www.sylvanian-families.net/USCollection.html

What do you guys think would be a fair price for the group lot?   I know I can get more if I list individually,  but I'm moving in a few weeks and would like to try to sell before then

I played with the vintage sylvanians in the 80´s. I saved the house and some of the figures and furniture just because they are so cute.  :)

I have no idea about the price but good luck with Selling!
