Signatures? How to?

I've noticed a lot of people have credit to someone on their signatures, other users I assume? Are there certain users who tend to make signatures for people? And for the people who make their own, how do you do it?  particularly the transparent background ones- photoshop? Is it possible to have animated signatures?
