How to remove plastic ties from a new doll's hair/head?
« on: June 07, 2017, 03:51:14 PM »
Hi! So I bought the Wonder Woman Mattel doll with her blue dress and sword because oh no she's gorgeous, but I realized when I was unboxing her that the two little plastic ties that held her head in place to the cardboard backing are stuck directly into her hair. Is there any way to remove those? Or is my best option to just trim them really close and push them in a little so they won't show?

Picture in case anyone's not sure what I'm talking about:

Its the same with MH, occasionally I am able to pull them out with pliers (SLOWLY) but sometimes they break anyway, and I can push them back into the head.

Recently I've found that just warming up the head a little bit using hot water, makes them super easy to pull out. I've only done this to dolls i'm planning on customising and rehairing, so I don't know if the water would have some affect on the hair or not (i know with MH at least this is kinda iffy lol)

I really wish they would stop attaching dolls heads like this -_- I mean its gotta be annoying for kids and busy parents lol.

I always just hold the doll's head/neck in place with one hand and, with the other, use a pair of pliers to yank the tie right out. That usually works, but if it doesn't, you just get something small and flat (like an eyebrow plucker) and keep pushing down on the tie until it disappears into the doll's head. I wouldn't recommend cutting, you risk getting some of the doll's hair that way and you won't be able to get it short enough that those ties won't occasionally pinch your fingers when you're handling the toy.

Thirding pliers. Just be careful not to get any hair caught in them, or you'll yank out a plug of THAT as well! I use small jewelry pliers, which are a lot easier to maneuver.

I never even thought of using pliers, I normally just part the hair, cut as close I can and then poke it in with a needle.

This is exactly what I do. Pliers never came to my mind either - I'd be scared of ripping the plastic if I'm not careful enough >_<
