Mystery paper in Gusty
« on: May 30, 2017, 05:51:24 AM »
Hi everyone!

In my very first pony purchase on eBay I received a very yellowed Gusty. Her symbols are faded and she is generally in a sad condition, though she doesn't look too bad in this photo...

However, when I took her head off to clean her as well as possible I found THIS:

Does anyone have an idea as to what this is and why it was inside my Gusty? Have any one of you come across anything similar (or equally strange?) inside one of your ponies?

I am hoping that someone on the Arena might be able to help with that at the very least: I certainly can't read it  ;)

Was the head loose? A child might have put that in it.

I used a translating app to recognise the characters and this is what I basically got...

編號 - Numbering (Serial number)
名稱 - Name (Company name/Product name?)
数量 - Quantity
姓名 - Name (Full name)
日期 - Date

So I'd guess it was a factory slip put inside by a worker, but I was using translating apps so I've no real clue. I'm really interested though, especially to know what the hand written part means, if it's just a scribble or words? What a cool find!

Oh what a mystery! I have no clue what the note says, but my guess is with tulips, as it is the only information as to what it says. Continue searching!

What's hilarious is that, before checking the Arena this morning, I was just reading a goofy article on the net about the "strangest things found inside of animals". :haha:

It's almost like a time capsule! ...Makes you wonder how many other slips of paper have secretly been hiding in ponies all these years.

yep that is an inspection tag. neat find!

Out of curiosity, what's the point of putting one inside of a pony? It wouldn't ever be seen, would it?

I can't speak Chinese, and it's not totally the same as Japanese in its construction with kanji, but I recognise most of the characters and if they are more or less the same meaning as Japanese, then roughly I think most of Tulips' translations make sense.

With the two different name terms, in Japanese they would be slightly different so I may be wrong, but the lower one has the characters which in Japanese are used for surname and first name. That implies to me that's either the individual name of the worker/inspector/whatever or the individual name of the pony. I think the former is more likely, though.

Company name in Japanese would be 社名. I didn't know the 稱 character so I had to look it up; apparently it means brand or product, so I think that term is product name rather than company name.

More interestingly to me is the fact those labels are written in traditional script, not simplified. Characters like 號 stand out for that. Mainland China predominately uses simplified Chinese script and have since the 1950s. Hong Kong, however, I *think* use traditional script. Gusty was made in Hong Kong, so that makes sense. I wouldn't like to guess if it is Cantonese or Mandarin, though. That is beyond me ;)

The scribble looks like a character to me - the right hand part looks like the ninben radical
https://media.kanjialive.com/radical_character/ninben.svg
in handwritten script, but I can't tell you what the character is, it's too squiggly. If it's a single character, though, it might be a surname. It seems to be in the quantity box, but the numbers in Japanese and Chinese are the same, and it doesn't resemble any number character I know, even squiggly.

I wonder if she was a factory sample? Not a prototype, but one sent to make sure it matched the prototype...

No, it was still glued on  :)

Thank you everyone for your help and input, I really appreciate it! It would be great if we could find out what the 'scribble' means  :). I put the paper back into Gusty once she was completely dry; it seemed to be the right thing to do. It is hers after all.
