Cherry treats...show me and cleaning help
« on: May 25, 2017, 08:48:59 AM »
I have a two tone cherry treat...up head is awesome white. Body not so much. Her hair is awesome. Her symbol is anaxing..but she is so off white, she looks like she just called out of a mud bath.

I did a baking soda and peroxide paste...i mixed them to a paste and used a baby tooth brush to brush it on her. It worked slowly. Not a huge change. I let the paste dry about a week. I did this to a dull moon stone. I wish I took before and after for moon stone, because she looks blinding bright, and no glitter loss to symbol.

Back to cherry treat. So I did a two day peroxide and water in the sun. When you do a peroxide soak, do you add water or No? I noticed a bit of a change, but nothing huge...being delicate due to the awesome symbol.

Any advice e? Ideas? And show me pictures...it will help me keep an eye on that symbol...and inspiration to keep going.

I will try and post a picture.

Is she a HK or a China one? For some reason the HK one seems to discolour much more easily. I don't know if that has an impact on the type of plastic used, but it might be a consideration...

My childhood one is Chinese and she is still very white.

I know when I did my peroxide thing I used only peroxide and a glass jar. I filled the pony with marbles so she would stay in the peroxide.  I didn't have a pony that would sunburn though. It took me about two tries and my yellow pony completed cleaned up.  When you have the head a different color just know that probably will not resolve itself easily.  This pony can burn in sun so be careful for sure.  Also you need heat and sun.  Not just sun. I have noticed that heat and sun is better, but like I mentioned before...not better for a sun burn prone pony. Hugs  I don't have my before and after photos anymore because the computer crashed and I lost all my photos of that old stuff from back when.  My symbols did change color slightly and the eye color changed color slightly using this method.  The pony I treated was brown from cigarette smoke and this was a wonderful way to fix her.  I would not have been able to keep her if it had not worked.

So small result as I used water and peroxide. The marble idea sounds great...wist I thought of that the first round:)

I've done a hydrogen peroxide soak a few times with Cherry Treats, and she reacts pretty well to a pure hydrogen peroxide soak (no water). As Tulagirl mentioned, since Cherry Treats is prone to sunburn, I just soaked her in hydrogen peroxide inside away from the sun. It takes at least two weeks, I think? Also, I've learned the hard way on my latest Cherry Treats, just last week, that her hair will turn orangeish if left in hydrogen peroxide too long (I had her in for about a month; silly of me and not recommended. Her mane turned orange; I'd removed her tail and kept it out). I've never had that happen before, though, when I've done Cherry Treats for a shorter amount of time. It sounds like you're just whitening the body, so just remove her tail and you should be fine :)

Here she is in her peroxide soak. It's not very warm, but it's sunny with some cloud cover. The container is not very clear either, so hope no burning. She is facing towards the sunrise, this way the symbols are not in direct light.

Wow, I didn't know hydrogen peroxide could whiten a pony!? My Cherry Treats is rather off-white and part of her face is a light brown, but because I have read and seen that she can become even worse in the sun I have never dared tried sunfading her and thought she would just have be this way. Does it do anything to the scent? Mine is still a bit secented and I wouldnt' want her to loose that.

Does it also work on yellowed ponies of other colors? How about Sternenglanz? Mine is kinda brownish with brown spots but I have read that she doesn't tolerate sunfading either. Can hydrogen peroxide make her white again??

How about yellowed accessories of hard plastic?

Sorry to hijack this thread but this is all news to me :lookround:

This is my first peroxide soak. Now that I use pure peroxide the process is a bit faster. It was slow when I added water. I had no idea she was sented. Mine had no smell. I only put her out for 2 days in light. I will check this weekend.

I've heard a hydrogen peroxide soak can take the sheen off of twinkle eyes, so no. Glad she's improving! It's a slow process but worth it.
