How to style a pony mohawk?
« on: May 19, 2017, 12:33:27 PM »
I'm working on rehairing a Princess Tiffany to fit more with my younger sibling's (also Tiffany) style. I have all my colors and plans drawn out but I'm at one sticking point. What would be the best way to keep a pony mohawk from falling over? I've thought about maybe watering down some glue, or using hair spray, but I don't want it to become a nasty sticky dust trap either.

Thoughts?

There are styling products meant for artificial hair, those might be a good option. I wouldn't try human hair products as I am not sure how the pony hair would react to those in the long run.

But then again, I haven't styled pony hair much. There must be many others who have knowledge from their own experiences, I hope they notice this thread! :)

If you cut it short enough (say, an inch or so) it will stand up on its own. :) Some hair types are also stiffer than others, so if you want to keep the hair longer than that, you could try using something other than nylon. Hope this helps!

I'm pretty sure I've seen people use watered down Mod Podge to make anime style spikes before (seems like it would work for mohawk as well).  Might want to see if someone could confirm that though.  Good luck! :)

I used really watered down PVA glue to stiffen a hairstyle, not a mohawk but it has held detail. No stickiness to report, and if it's watered thin enough it doesn't look foggy/milky with glue.

I've heard that Mod Podge is essentially already watered down craft glue (PVA), so watering it down further would get it to the perfect consistency.

Good luck with whatever you do. ^.^
