When is a pony accessory not a pony accessory?
« on: May 14, 2017, 08:51:22 PM »
The answer is: when Hasbro has used the mold for another of their toys.  :P

I was browsing around Google Images and I found these pictures of Hasbro "Love-a-Bye" dolls from 1990-ish, which came with white ducky pull toys, stacking rings, and princess pony hats with a pom-pom on top (as "birthday hats" I guess, lol).  The pictures were originally from an eBay auction, but the auction is too old to show up on eBay anymore.

I also remember Hasbro having an early 90s line of plush turtles, and a couple of the turtles came with MLP accessories.  Like I think one came with a princess wand.

I think I have - or have had in the past - the yellow hat in that picture. Wondered what it went to, so thanks for that!

Hehe, didn't they reuse one or two accessories for Jem, too? It's interesting when they do this.

Oooh and good thinking Jinxxy, that could be a good lead for the hair-clip :O I hadn't thought about that.

I think My Pretty Mermaids used some of the MLP comb molds.

Make Me Up Darlings came with original style combs. This Topsy Turtle came with a sun pick. The ad on Ghost of the Doll shows her with a brush. I picked her up at a flea market recently.

I'm not sure about that - I was an MLP child, I rarely bought anything else and I can't think of any of my toys having hair that would use a hair grip.

Those duck toys are so cute!

I like those white duck pulls.

I noticed recently that the newer (early 2000s) Brazil SSC dolls came with MLP flutter picks (mostly pink ones, without the flower centers painted).

Really?! Do you have pics? I wonder if hasbro still has molds to all the brushes?! That'd be so cool!

I know they had quite a few toy lines, and borrowed parts a lot.

I don't have a picture, but if you search strawberry shortcake Brazil on eBay you would find some mib pictures.

Not a surprise that such a company used her molds for anothers things. I'm sure with a great search, this kind of re-use is more common than we though ;)
Usefull to know.

How cool is that! Maybe that can explain otherwise unexplainable MLP accessories? I have a few accessories that have me puzzled but maybe they came with other toylines.....

I think these kind of pseudo-accessories should be catalogued in one place :)

Here's the catalog image of the Love-A-Bye Babies.   Hats, duckies, stacking toys, even the bottles are like the Teeny Tiny Twins bottles.  The birthday boxes are the same shape & folding style as the box from the birthday ponywear.

Cabbage Patch Magic Meadow Glitz'n Glamour ponies had tiaras in various colors that match the eyelash princess tiaras. There's at least a pink, purple and gold one....and I think maybe blue?

The My Little Puppy / Kitty / Bunny Nursery Litters used the same style Teeny Tiny Twins bottles, combs & brushes, stacking toys.   They also used molds from the German Nesthakchen Babies:  crib, cradle, bathtub, bathsponge, teddy bear.

And Sindy (aka Barbie) took a few cues from the Hasbro molds too.

And also this Sindy bedtime wear set has the European kitten and bunny shaped friends from Katie and Billie MLP sets:

I also have a clear purple flutter pony pick, but I don't have a photo handy and I'm not sure where that one came from.

OMG!!  I definitely remember people coming to the board having found that bunny, wondering if it was a variant of the My Little Bunnies!  So it turns out it was Sindy!   Sindy was produced by Hasbro, so that makes sense . . . Wow, well done, another pony mystery solved.
