Spirit Riding Free
« on: April 20, 2017, 05:48:30 PM »
Hopefully this hasn't already been posted. I LOVED Spirit Stallion of the Cimarron growing up. Looks like they're making a spin off of the movie into a Netflix series. Here is a link with more info below. Not sure I'm going to like it or not.

There was a topic at one point but it's been buried.

I was excited until they revealed details and the redesign. This is not the spirit I grew up with and I'm very sad that this is what Dreamworks decided to do with their film.

Likewise. :( They should have created an entirely new franchise rather than riding (pun unintended) off the success of the movie.

I mean... Why does the animation look worse than a PS1 game? Why is Spirit hanging out in a fence he can clearly jump out of? Why is he okay with being ridden by this random girl who just... Gave him an apple? I have so many questions, and I choose to answer them by pretending it's not actually the same Spirit. It clearly isn't, considering the blaze.

What Luxrayx said >< I don't think I'm going to like this show. My first problem is that he suddenly has a blaze and a commenter on the Facebook page made a good point that it makes no sense for him to be hanging around humans and galloping near trains when he doesn't have the best history with them and it really kills the spirit of the first movie which was all about Spirit regaining and maintaining his freedom. Now he's giving up the thing he worked so hard for for some little girl. The little girl and her horse thing is old too. The show doesn't seem exactly period accurate either with the other girls running around in jeans.

I feel like this is going in the exact opposite direction from the message of the original film.
They could have at least animated it better too? There's not really anything at all about this that I find interesting lol.

The cartoon is gonna be dreadful, no doubt about it. But I'm excited for the new Breyers coming with it.

My guess, judging by their clothes is that he's a descendant of the original Spirit. Just because his wild ancestor couldn't be tamed doesn't mean he couldn't be. I want no less then two toys of that pinto Boomerang.

only teeny tiny little saving grace is that this horse ISN'T THE ACTUAL SPIRIT.

He's a descendant. but that still doesn't make me want to watch this series the animation looks hokey and you can tell that they've decided to re use scenes from the movie.

I was always more of a Silver Brumby fan than a Spirit fan, but I have to admit that looks kind of weak. It seems like someone's fanfiction of Spirit on the big screen. I don't see a problem with the idea of doing such a show, but really, why try and piggyback except to try and drum up a bigger audience?

Just like with the Jem movie, it really has nothing to do with old Jem but they tried to use the name anyway.

Precisely! They should have just done their own thing.

I've never seen Thowra. Always wanted to.

I used to read the books, and the cartoon I only saw if I got home from school in time to see it air (which was rarely) but I did love it. I still have those books somewhere.

Hmm....the Wikia page did say that this is the descendant of the original Spirit but the DreamworksTV site says nothing about that, bleh. Wish it could be confirmed for sure cuz if this is Spirit's son and not supposed to be Spirit himself, I'd feel better about this show.

I had almost forgotten this mess existed.  -_- It's only purpose is to sell toys and it's so obvious... when researching it with my sister a couple months ago we found out about another sequel that was originally planned that had sounded so much more interesting, about Spirit having a daughter I think?

I wouldn't have realized they changed his markings without people pointing it out... so that means the new toys won't even be accurate. Sigh...

The show doesn't seem exactly period accurate either with the other girls running around in jeans.

That was my very first issue when I saw the promotional art. Until watching the trailer I thought it was taking part in modern times which would have made the consistency even worse.
