Why do some people on eBay.uk put G2 to G4 ponies into G1
« on: April 11, 2017, 11:03:04 PM »
I've seen sellers put either G2, G3, or G4 into the My Little Pony pre-1990 which is for the G1 ponies and other things related to G1.

G2, 3,and 4 should be in the 1990-Now category.

It also makes me laugh that some sellers give the ponies wrong names.

They should check the Wikipedia page for all of the G1 Ponies names.

Because some people regardless where they are from, don't know any better. Or they put them in lots and perhaps couldn't be bothered to name all the gens.

It is pretty annoying and time consuming to get every detail right on selling items on eBay (especially if you aren't familiar with the items, which I'm sure a lot of sellers aren't).

Sometimes it's not worth it for items that you might only make a few bucks on.

It's a ploy to sell them and make money through more exposure.  They think more people are looking at g1s.  Also people pay to list in more than one caragory.

Mostly it's ignorance.  They see one category that is mostly filled with G4s, they know their pony doesn't look like that, so they stick it the "non-G4" category.

Honestly, we are very lucky to have separate categories under MLP at all.  Transformers used to have several categories but then eBay mashed them all together.  In fact, it's not only just for Transformers anymore, now it's "Transformers and Robots".  I pray that eBay never notices that MLP still has two separate categories.

The basic problem is and has always been that Ebay's categories are nonsensical anyway. 1990 is not a place you can divide MLP, but realistically you can't divide it by year and expect it to make sense. Not a chance of Ebay opening up generational categories, so there ends up being issues. I also get irked by G4 in the G1 category, but a bigger problem is that sometimes g1 appear in the 1990-now category. And technically a good number of G1 belong in that category...because that's when they were on sale.

Ebay made the first mistake, the rest is down to sellers not knowing their items that well.
