Banner ad tutorial?

I'm working on getting my shop up and running more this year, so thought I might want to eventually have one of those siggy ads where the words and images change, and you can click on it to be taken to the person's etsy store (or similar site).

Only problem is, I've no idea how to make one, and not sure where to start with learning! (Nor do I know what that kind of advert is called... )

Can anyone recommend some good youtube videos on the subject?

You're talking about an animated GIF if it moves. You can make one from scratch in Photoshop but anymore there are apps and templates to choose from and make it easier. They can be made in outdated flash or HTML 5 but for forum siggies etc, a GIF will do the trick.
