Best place to offer commissions?
« on: April 04, 2017, 02:39:27 PM »
So I have been at this for a while, trying to get people to take commissions and such, and haven't really had much luck. I've had a few here and there and many people say that they are going to pay me and then they don't, and well, it's very discouraging. I want to know, for those of you who do take commissions, what's the best place you have found that you get commissions from? Really curious because I kind of want to make this my full time job instead of part time.

I know people say they get commissions on dA, tumblr, etc but I've never had such luck.

You are right, it can be discouraging but don't give up.

I've had luck on furaffinity, but its still hit or miss. I've made 200 dollars in one month and 50 the next. Its quality and price is what gets peoples attention.
Keep trying and don't give up!

I get commissions via my Facebook page, Etsy and the pony forums (here mostly) :) Word of mouth is import as well.

Don't give up, it can take can time to establish yourself, build a good portfolio and get yourself known.

my facebook page, etsy, DA, etc.....basically what PKW said

but price and quality also play a factor

and I can't think of a single MLP customizer who does it as their JOB, even part time (it's a hobby). It pains me to even think about how much I'd have to charge for a custom in order to cover my TIME at anything remotely close to min wage /hour and I've been doing this since the 90s lol. So....what I tell people is to make customs because YOU want to make them and NOT because you want/need to sell them (that's a bonus), and if you do make to sell don't expect a profit (maybe over supplies, but not over time)... and you'll definitely need an established portfolio to get people to commission you.
