LaW, referring to the symbol when you say part and parcel with mlp?Not so, MLP has always had blank flanks as far back as G1. I forget their names, but the blank G1 baby ponies are totally cute and I am pretty sure I have one of them...somewhere.Nothing wrong with no-symbol ponies and Star Dreams is about the best looking G4 I've ever seen, got to get me a few of her.
Excuse me for the overbroad application of the term but I still think Star Dreams fits into the category of the few and that is just one more thing that makes her special.(though it is interesting there are no G3 examples, what about G2? None?)

But it's still a core part of the identity of MLP and you'll notice that aside from sea ponies, the symbol-less ones are few and far between. There were also none in G3 aside from the Blank Pony, but she doesn't count as she was meant to be customized.

I love her, but I still don't have her. Gonna buy her on Aliexpress when the 7 years celebration sales will start.

Sorry lostpony.I'm about 99% sure that there aren't any G2s who don't have symbols. In G1 the only symbol-less pony(ies) that were not sea ponies was Ember (Pink/Blue/Lavender), G2 I don't recall any without a symbol, and G3 there were none. G1 and G4 were the only ones that did this and G4 just pretty much expanded on it
