Problems with my 3DS
« on: March 17, 2017, 07:20:34 PM »
So yesterday I was playing Disney Magical World 2 on my 3DS. I was playing a game of tag with Donald and Mickey when suddenly I was running in slow motion. After I got myself "unstuck" I couldn't move the circle pad in certain directions. Mainly down or to the lower left. It almost feels like something inside my system shifted or broke.

I've never had a Gameboy or DS break on me before so I'm not sure what to do. Can it be fixed or do I have to buy a new one?

I'm sure if it's still under warranty you should be able to contact a branch of Nintendo customer support to organise to have it sent away for repair. The Operations Manual that came with it should have a section on warranty and making a claim.

If it's the New 3DS it should have at least a 12 month warranty that might be valid still. The old version is probably too old for them to still cover. I know in Australia that our Consumer Law overrides this warranty and dictates that if the product fails within an unreasonable amount of time (usually within 3 years for technology) you can still demand a replacement or repair as your right. Don't know about US law but it's worth researching.

If Nintendo won't repair it (under warranty or not) you might be able to find an independent tech repair store to do it, I don't know how much I'd trust them unless they're specialised or a registered Nintendo repairer though.

Good luck, sucks that you're having troubles. I'd be so worried if my 3DS started playing up like that. :(

It's not a New 3DS. I got it back in 2013. I'm not even sure where the box or manual is. I hope I don't have to replace it. It was a gift from Kenai.

Do you think dirt got down there?

It looks like Nintendo doesn't repair the older small 3DS systems anymore (serial code starts with CW). So that means you would have to find a 3rd party to repair it or try to do it yourself if it's not an XL.

It's a 3DS XL.

It won't be under warranty. But you can use the Nintendo support page for a repair by Nintendo for the 3DSXL

Gah! My 3DS XL is having problems of it's own, namely recognizing it does indeed have an SD card in it. I have the old the pink one and I love it's color. I recently bought the LE Pikachu New 3DS XL. I plan to do a system transfer and give my old pink one to my mom to borrow and let me play Animal Crossing on it while I enjoy my new hardware.

Good luck on getting it fixed. :)  It's not fun when your system gives you grief. :(

I just mailed mine off to Nintendo yesterday. Apparently fixing the circle pad is going to cost me over $100!

Disclaimer. I didn't read the whole thread...but DMW2 is FULL of glitches. Like full.
Ive had the game quit on me so many times, on so many different screens and for no reason at all. Is it just this game? Or all games that are having the issue?

Not too surprising- it is basically a computer.  I remember when my laptop fell and one key went out- the fix was more than the laptop (used) was worth.  Sometimes you just have to move on...  especially since your 3ds is pretty old-  wouldn't it be a bummer to fix this issue only to have another issue?

I bet you could buy a used working 3ds for $100 or less

I've had those glitches happen, but this wasn't the game. It's my system.

The repair itself is $85. It was the shipping, tax, etc that put it over $100. It think the grand total was $101... something. I've already shipped it off to Nintendo.

I briefly considered getting a New 3DS. I even looked at them at Wal-Mart on Sat. If it would've been any other system, I would've replaced it. But I'm too emotionally attached to this one. It was a gift from my best guy friend. We don't normally spend that much on each other. Esp not that much on one item. So it was a real shock when he bought it for me. I'd rather have this one fixed than get a new one.

Glancing on ebay (completed auctions) looks like you can get a working used system for between $69-$110 (with a game and charger)

But I guess if you are emotionally attached to it- than the price is beside the point right?

Yeah, that's not enough of a difference in price to outweigh the sentimental value.

Got an email from Nintendo this morning. They received my 3DS.
