Pinwheel Variant, Argie?
« on: March 16, 2017, 08:15:10 AM »
Hello all,

I have bought this Pinwheel variant a little while ago from a seller in Newzealand and couldn't find info on her anywhere yet, including the wiki which I would like to add her to.
According to the seller, she would be an Argie. Her first impression look from her colour scheme is like someone had painted a Pinwheel symbol on a Peachy, but she has different eye colour, the hair/body plastic texture is what I know from Argies and she doesn't have any "regular" hoof markings either. Her symbol looks quite genuine, too.
Can anyone confirm her being an Argie, or does anyone have further info on her?

Wow!! Never seen it before!!

ETA: I have just spoken to a friend from argentina, and she said that these are considered false. That the symbol has been painted on an argie CC or such.

But let's see what others say ^^

I just found out in a little research that Argie Cotton Candy has these caracteristics including the eye colour, perhaps they did a Pinwheel out of a symbolless Cotton Candy?

She is one of the unconfirmed Argie ponies :) Quite a few odd CP and other pose ponies have cropped up with the wrong symbols, you can see some of them in the nirvana gallery.

Quite a few of the Argie ponies have NC hoof markings too :bigups:

Thank you Caro!
I looked up the member who submitted her to the gallery and it is indeed someone from Newzealand. I have asked her via PM if she is the one who sold her to me, would love to find out wether or not there is a second one known.

Also thank you PKW, will take a look!

Wondering, are they really called unfinished if they have everything a pony should have, just in a different way? To me, ponies with non-matching eyes/symbols would rather be hybrids than unfinished ones?

I think they are called Unconfirmed rather than unfinished. The album has both types of ponies ^^

oh cool  variant, even if unconfirmed - hey, is the paint stamp a bit thick on her?

I have some of the sparkler variants and Delaney's flutterby, and a butterscotch/microphone argie. All to me have somewhat thicker than what I would consider normal argie symbols... and since they all technically could have started life as another regular argie, I agree that some stock could have been "wiped clean" and re-stamped as I think there were stencils found or some such reported similar a few years back

it would be neat to know if they did test ponies before final production runs ... dunno

I recall, awhile back that someone was "making" these and selling them on eBay. It was during the time of the "repaired hair" Argies. If I remember rightly, I think someone had factory stamps and the blank trotting pose ponies, as well as other bits and they were cobbling ponies together.

It must have been in 2004-2005 and there were LOADS of Argies on eBay, many real and some "made up" and some "repaired hair".

It's hard at this point to know what is genuine, what is truly unfinished and what is made up.

I need to go back and refresh my memory on this subject.

Thats an interesting information pkw. From the other "unconfirmed" ponies in the gallery, it really looks like someone made them from usual and less expensive CP ponies of the first six. It's a shame I paid that much for her, $100.

The member who submitted the pony to the gallery is indeed the one who sold her to me via Ebay and answered: "pinwheel is one of about 30 i bought directly from argentina from a very dodgy seller,as luck would have it,I got my ponies whilst many did not,I have at least 10 other argies that are somewhat unknown [...]
And indeed, she has other ponies in CP and Walking pose, most with butterfly symbols in different colours, some unfinished, also a Minty with Sweet Stuff's symbol. Seen as a whole, all of these definately look made-up. I will add this story to the wiki I think, this is quite valuable background information.

Another question, what are those "repaired hair" ponies about?

Maycrestmom, could you perhaps post pictures of yours? Would love to see.
I checked back her symbols and find it difficult to tell if they are a bit thick, they are definately well made but have slight imperfections to one side where the paint is a bit thinner than it should be, and it is visible that it became thinner in the process of making these, during when they were still wet. Also, both sides do not have the same colour.

Btw thank you LadyPinwheel, I saw your edited comment just now. This is what I thought, will add the info on the wiki accordingly. :)

Well I have edited the wiki by putting warnings in the main Argie page and also marking my variant as fake, together with the history stated that pkw provided, see here:
http://mylittlewiki.org/wiki/Argentina#Collector_Pose_Ponies
http://mylittlewiki.org/wiki/Pinwheel#Argentinian_Pinwheel_Variant_IV
http://mylittlewiki.org/wiki/G1_Cotton_Candy#Argentinian_Cotton_Candy_Variant_IV

But browsing through the other Argie ponies, I noticed many which with my new knowledge I would estimate as "made up" ponies, too. I would like to raise awareness inside the community, but don't want to give out any false information either, at the risk to mark a real prototype as "fake". Do you have any idea how we could identify the fakes together so that proper mentions can be added in the wiki afterwards? If anyone would like to help with editing, that would be great but the next step right now really is the identification part.

Of course, any more "history" info would be welcome, too!
