Staining fabrics on dolls
« on: March 13, 2017, 02:36:42 PM »
I have been scared of using black or dark colored fabrics on doll clothes because of the risk of stains. Once i accidentally stained a Catrine MH doll with a dark blue ribbon and i have never touched it since. Is there any way of preventing stains or knowing which fabric will stain? Does it depend on the type of plastic?

You can color fast clothing to help prevent stains :3 If you're really worried you could even get one of those things that attract excess dyes when you wash something. Red often has too much dye but very dark shades are generally known to be possible stainers, too.

Part of it depends on the doll (for example, vinyl will stain easier than resin) but there's probably many factors that go into it. Doll type, doll quality, doll color, fabric type, fabric quality, dye color, dye quality, weather (possibly?), how the doll/clothing is stored, how tight the clothing is, how often the doll's outfit is changed, etc. If I'm going to leave my softer or more sentimental dolls in the same outfit for long periods of time I try to pick something light in color and at least a little loose. Some people suggest storing dolls naked if you can but I'm generally not a fan of that.

...interesting that a few years ago I'm sure that the Disney store started wrapping tissue paper around the wrists of Prince Hans dolls so that his dark cuffs would not stain his hands... I seem to remember seeing it when I removed him from the box... but my girl has dressed him in Ken clothes now

Yeah, some companies wrap their dolls depending on the clothing. I know Pullip does on some dolls which I am very grateful for. My Batgirl Pullip was completely wrapped in plastic under her bodysuit, and since it doesn't show at all I just left her that way!

When possible I like to have a white lining on my doll clothes or white undergarments for them.

Pumpkin cart was dyed by the very black ribbon she CAME WITH. That has made me so paranoid!

Hmm, you could try magic eraser or sanding it off with a really fine grit. But i don't reccomend the sandpaper method because it kind or ruins the sculpt. You could try painting it..
