This is a major first world problem but I can't decide on what kind of teapot to get. I've held it to ransom, so I'm only allowed to  get one once I've finished clearing out all the stuff that's languishing in the spare room. Some of that stuff has been sold on evilbay already, so I'm a step closer to the teapot, but it's a hard decision. There's a white stoneware one in the shape of a cat with a gold collar on it, which is quite elegant and smart, but I also really like cast iron teapots because of their traditional charm, and one of those would go well with the Japanese influences that have cropped up throughout the house.
Hopefully once the rest of the junk has been cleared out of The Abyss, then I'll feel more certain about what teapot I want. :|

I wanted to burn some CDs to put in my car but as soon as I started looking through my music, I couldn't decide what to put on the discs so it will have to wait until tomorrow (or possibly longer depending on if I can figure it out tomorrow or not).

This morning a dove actually went out of his way to prove me wrong. :hmm: We couldn't sleep, it was 5 AM and we heard all the birds waking up one by one. First the blackbirds, then the robins... So I said to my husband, "next the wrens will wake up, the house sparrows and the doves are always last, when it's light outside".

..."CUCKOO COO!"

:hmm:

And then the little bugger remained silent until 6:30. He heard me, and just HAD to prove me wrong. It was funny as heck, but I was actually pissed for a moment. XD

I found out that Dragonboat festival is combined with a muslim holiday for a week long holiday (june 5-12) but its only in very specific parts of China( that have high muslim populations), and I just happened to live in one.

SO my issue is, where should I go? Stay put in Ningxia or go elsewhere? Traveling IN china during any national holiday is a nightmare for me because of the sheer amt of people but staying here  for a week is gonna get boring. I did that during the national day golden week and I got bored after 4 days.

Ah yes, the Oklahoma tornado season has begun. They cancelled school in like half the state today due to the weather (which kinda sucks because it was welding certification day at my tech school, but safety first always), and there's been a couple tornadoes on the ground in the state already. Yikes! Hope that we don't get hit by one.

Good luck to people facing tornadoes!

So this is where I am right now.

I have more or less done my revisions of my thesis, I have to print it tomorrow so I can check it in hardcopy as I don't pick up errors on screen so well. But this is due on 8th August. And I have basically done it. So that's one thing.

In the last month I have also written an academic article, reviewed another, applied for two jobs, invigilated several exams, supported my students through their exams (which are now ended, my duties are over!), submitted something else for another project I'm working on...attended a funding conference at the embassy...

So why is it I feel like I'm not doing anything useful right now?

I have spent the last two evenings watching anime. It's not even cerebral anime. It's about as mainstream as you can get, but I really like it. And I feel really guilty about spending 2 evenings doing this. But why do I? I literally have NO formal deadlines right now until the end of June. There is an essay competition I might enter if I can figure out how to structure my answer, but it's absolutely not a must do.

So...I really shouldn't be feeling guilty about not doing something academic. I shouldn't feel guilty about watching anime (in Japanese, note :P) or writing fanfic or anything else on that level. And yet I DO.

I think it's the same as when you have exams and then they're over and you've so conditioned yourself to do work for them that when they're done, you feel a bit lost...?

But meh.

I decided to go to the bookstore in the mall today. Unfortunately I got there when a bunch of high school/junior high age students were there. I wouldn't have been bothered about them being in the store except they were disrupting the quiet atmosphere of the bookstore. Some were talking/yelling loudly but what really got me was that I saw a few actually running around the book store behind and between the aisles.   A bookstore is not the place to be running around like you are on a playground.

When I worked in the library kids would do that, and throw around magazines, and sometimes play in the rolling stack which is very. not. safe. Fortunately the one on the public access floor was self-locking, but yeah. I don't like tarring 'kids' all with the same brush as many are fine, but there's always some. Getting the bus back when I lived in North London at around 3 was a bad idea if it was coming through from certain areas, as the kids on those buses were noisy, intimidating, and actually pulled people's hair and created a scene. I saw them thrown off the bus once. It was a pretty unpleasant experience travelling with them. (I worked with teenagers for 2 years, many of whom came from rougher areas or problem backgrounds. I travelled on many buses with my students and others at the end of the day, and never had any of them behave like that...so it really is just a few giving the rest a bad name)

Someone is stealing DVDs from the library again.  Seriously, you can use them for FREE!  Why would you go out of your way to prove that you're a pathetic loser by stealing them?

Yep, know the feeling - it's great! Then... you feel guilty - I *should* be doing something?!! Enjoy the anime!

So my tooth started hurting again, BIG TIME. Saw the dentist this afternoon, she drilled stuff and poked around the nerve YOWCH it REALLY hurt... packed it with some sort of antibiotic filler and I am now scheduled for the dreaded root canal in 2 weeks time...

the specialist clinic is next to my old secondary school so at least it will be easy to find

I get how you feel Taffeta - I still clearly remember the very first day after I finished university. Husband (then boyfriend) left for work, so I got up too, basically as a habit, and I was just... wandering around the flat, not knowing what to do, for what felt like the first time ever in my life. There was no "it starts again in September", there was just no specific next step. I could have done a lot of things I wasn't able to when I was studying my butt off, but suddenly I didn't have the mood for anything. I just sat there, stood up, walked around, sat back, and felt incredibly lost - and depressed too actually - the latter only increased after a couple of weeks' trying to find a job, in vain. To stay on topic (as I don't really have anything to complain about right now), it still pisses me off why so many companies put up ads for jobs in July when they actually didn't have plans of hiring anyone until summer is over. I never managed to get a job until September, and by that time I was feeling so miserable and good-for-nothing that it literally hurt. Later it turned out (when suddenly everyone started to call me in September) that they just put the ads up, left for summer holiday, and continued recruitment only in September. Why? Ideally (I would believe) those who wanted a job in July would have already settled for something by September (because they needed the money), and those who start looking for a job in September will not even look at, let alone apply for an ad that is more that 2 months old...

Enjoy being able to have some peace of mind and watching whatever you want to watch! :)

@Loona - my job at the college some years back was like that...advert in May, interview date...end July. That's genuinely not practical...but that was somehow still the job that I got xD. (And I still have to find a job too now, going forward. Struck me today that I essentially have 3 months left in London :/ After 4 consecutive years here it's going to be a wrench going back to a place where there is nothing and no transport and yeah. Nothing. Nothing but Leave voters. The only good thing there is my parents. (And I guess my pony collection, but you know).

@Pokeyonekenobie - I know you know this, but even though the people who come into libraries appear to be civilised folk, the reality is often very different O.o. Beneath those innocent expressions are some of the craziest people on the planet. Seriously, the lack of respect people have for library property is astounding.

We didn't have DVDs in my library as it was a ref library, but the thing that got me the most was the newspapers. The fact we (note, mostly I) stamped and put these out neatly each morning, and then during the day they'd get filleted, thrown about, misordered, kicked in pieces around the floor, bits stolen (we used to have to take out certain supplements because they'd get pinched, usually the job ones, oh the irony) and coupons cut out (yes, get a free something at the library's expense. You know, that place where they pay for you to use the resources for free, not for you to get money off your shopping!). And the worst part was most of these were so called broadsheet newspapers, not tabloids. And the people who came to read them apparently were civilised and literate until they got to the newspaper rack, at which point they became mad chimps having an impromptu party.

...I am sure you can relate.

@Glitterball, thank you! I am trying, the problem is that it's now currently airing, and I'm almost caught up, and I hate waiting...

I don't know if you've had a root canal before, but honestly, the root canal is generally less bad than the infection or nerve irritation that comes before it. If it's a molar it can hurt more, but its' still ultimately better if it's done properly than having the infection/issue in the tooth. And it sounds like part of it she's already done, if she did a temp filling. So with any luck it will go fine :)

<--root canal veteran now. My nerves hate me. Yes. I get on my own nerves. Sigh. No jokes please.

So my trivial complaint for today...mostly done with my revisions but going through my page numbers and they are all perfect EXCEPT FOR ONE! So I have to now redo the whole PDF because one page number says 210 instead of 226 on the contents page. And I have to redo it at uni because I don't have the software here to edit or grayscale it. So there goes my afternoon tomorrow.

Gaaah.
