I've caught an illness, it feels like my head has been hit with 1000 bricks

This has been a very long week. For various reasons. Finding Tickle and co was actually a really nice thing to happen in what has otherwise been crazy.

Now I have to go teach. My convener on Tuesday dumped it on me to run an essay workshop today with them today. I have had zero time to prepare because of above family reasons that had me zipping all over the country the last 2 days. So I have no idea how it's going to play.

I remember nothing about 1980s Korean politics right now either, nor Japanese postwar nostalgia. And I really hate teaching anything postwar. Also, if it happened in my lifetime I really don't feel like it's history. It makes me feel so old since most of my students were born in or around the year 2000.

Also my convener disappears off to Japan for 5 years sabbatical next week.

It's ok for some.

How so? Is this about the copyright laws? I can see there might be inconveniences but on the level of principle, I think it's a good thing. Furthermore, apparently the new law will also affect artworks in the public domain - previously, libraries and other repositories have been able to collect fees from researchers and others who wish to reproduce images, even if the said works are out of copyright (think medieval manuscripts). Having those fees lifted would be extremely helpful for art historians and other scholars, who often have to pay for these out of pocket!

My vent: In addition to my struggles trying to get up earlier, I always seem to miss the bus. Oh well. Off now so I can catch the next one!

I was hoping for a call from a friend of mine nothing at all, I guess something came up.

The neighbor that lives about 2 blocks away often goes out with my family. Today the neighbor wanted to get cookies because she had a Buy 1 Get 1 Free coupon. The neighbor decided to keep both of her cookies for herself but since there were 4 people in the group today that meant someone didn't get a cookie.  I'm not saying that she had to share her cookies but a little warning that she would keep both for herself would have been nice.

Let me rant for a while about my doctoral school.

So all of this year they have been driving me mad. Not a new state of affairs, but still.

January, they delayed my submission by sending me to a printers that was closed.

February, they promised to expedite my thesis to examiners, then didn't.

March, they told me that they would liaise about AV in my exam. They haven't.  ANd now they are basically saying they don't do any of that, it's all on my supervisor, etc.

This in spite of the fact I was told by many people at the DS that they needed to be involved in organising this.
