I finally got round to checking out the Final Fantasy 7 remake and it's proving to be great fun so far. It's one of those extremely rare specimens: a video game where I actually enjoy the combat! Normally when it comes to games, I just tolerate the fights and get my jollies from exploring and solving puzzles.
Making breakfast was also great fun this morning; I had a go at making Scotch pancakes for the first time. It was a messy job, but the pancakes themselves came out tasting very nice and they had a suitably light, fluffy texture. Yums!

Dad and I sat down and binged the last three episodes of Star Trek: lower decks since we were behind. I love watching trek and other sci fi media with dad! It’s how we bond, and I enjoy it. But they started reminiscing at the end about the events the characters had been involved in over the season, and I started crying. It’s not sad, it’s pride. As a character creator and animator, I find those reminiscing scenes are what kill me because it’s like looking at a child who’s grown up. You created, wrote and nurtured these characters (or in my case, get so invested in stories you can pretend they are real) and see how your careful time and effort made them bloom. So yeah, started crying a little. Not because “oh god that’s so beautiful” but “oh gosh the reminiscing trope! I don’t want to relive these feelings!”

My 1930s fountain pen arrived today!

I can't unscrew the stuck barrel but no problem - I use it as a dip pen with a pot of ink. I managed to do 8 lines of writing before re-inking so that was a nice surprise!

It's such a cute pen with the wee little heart hole on the nib. Very happy with it  :)

Also -

took a trip to town today, had a snoop in John Lewis, no retro ponies, alas, but I treated myself to a pretty glass Christmas bauble instead  :)

Inner smiles all the way. I went thrifting today and found a baby Starburst, which was totally unexpected. Finding enough change on me to buy her, when I wasn’t sure I had enough. Funnily enough, I was small talking with the cashier and told her that hopefully, after this pony purchase, things start looking up today. Then, not even 10 minutes later, while playing Pokémon Go, I found a shiny Vulpix, which was doubly unexpected! All this after having a piss poor morning.

Congratulations on your pony and Pokemon finds, Mana Minori!

What made me smile today was seeing that my mint plant has perked up. It was drooping quite dramatically yesterday but fortunately, all it needed was watering, and it's looking lively again now. The thyme plant is also amusing me because it looks as if it's trying to take over the windowsill. I do need to trim some of it off and get a hop on with learning how to do homemade dried herbs, but in the meantime, I'm happy to enjoy this tableau of territorial thyme by the window. XD

What made me smile this day? A lot actually. Really a good day!
1. My friend who is on an exchange trip to Switzerland came online and played Minecraft with me and our friends for a bit. He’s doing well, having a lot of fun there. Though everything is crazy expensive compared to here though.
2. I came up with an idea for a Christmas special of an RPG we were all playing, and want to actually write and run it.
3. My youngest sister is trying to learn blender (3d software) for her roblox stuff so she can make pictures with her avatar. I am by no means an expert on the subject, but I do know blender and it’s workflow/space. Teaching her is a bit...challenging since she has no prior knowledge of 3d workspaces or a lot of computer knowledge. But I am so proud of her for trying to learn, and she has managed to finish her first image! It is currently rendering and I am just so so happy! She’s excited too.

@Glitterball - JL have the unicorn set on their website, although they seem to be confused - or maybe I am confused about what a Rain Gusty Sparkler is.

But they're £9.49 which seems cheaper than most other places.

Just a heads up to keep an eye open.
