crafters! repairing pop-up books - new or old paper?

a neighbor asked me to see if I can repair their 1950s pop up
books.  Should I use new acid free cardstock for reinforcement parts or try and find paper from the same era?

I think if they were my books I would prefer new paper to be used for the repairs. It will make the repairs stronger and more likely to last. Also acid-free is always a plus. That is just my feelings as an old book enthusiast.

What kind of damage are you looking to repair? The pop-up parts only, or the binding or other parts of the book as well?

I would say in addition to acid free paper, the type of glue will need to be selected carefully. I'm afraid I don't know which kind would be the best, though - I did a very quick web search and PVA seems to be the recommended type.
