Two quick questions about fixing pony hair!
« on: February 27, 2017, 07:43:19 PM »
Hey folks!

So I've been finding some slightly beat-up G1s at thrift stores and through craigslist to restore, so naturally I need to fix some issues with hair and tails :P

My twilight is missing her tail. I've been meaning to order a replacement from dollyhair, but I've never ordered from there before so I'm not sure what color would be a good match.

The site suggests virgin snow for most ponies with white hair, but hers has a warm touch to it that looks slightly yellowish. I was thinking maybe marshmallow or white witch...? What do you guys think?

Also, I found two flutter ponies at the thrift store the other day--morning glory and forget-me-not. I think they were owned by the same person and stored together because forget-me-not's hair is stained with what looks suspiciously like the highlighter-yellow color of morning glory's hair. :P

In her case, I was wondering if those spots could somehow be bleached without destroying the hair, or if I need to rehair her altogether. Any pony hair experts out there?

Thanks for looking!

Ooh nice finds and how exciting to begin a restore!

I cannot help you with Twilight's hair as I have not bought those shades before, so really can't say what tone those colours are.

The flutter hair - well, start off gently with plain soap and water and see if any of the yellow shifts (and also just to give the pony a good clean). If the yellow stays, I am not sure what to do next  :( I have never used bleach on nylon hair before - but I am sure someone else on here can give you more advice!

I'm not an expert unfortunately, nor do I have either Twilight or Virgin Snow so that I can compare, but this site also lists this colour as a match to the white in her mane and tail:
The My Little Pony Hair Color Matching Guide

I hope you'll be able to find the perfect match for her :)

Yeah I noticed that about my Twilight too. I'm going to guess that Marshmallow would be your most likely bet.

They are lovely! It's probably stubborn dirt I would say. I'd use toothpaste, then soap, then conditioner to clean and then check again. For the flutters I'd try the same and then one or two days careful sunfading if necessary. Careful not to get water inside or dry with the heads off. I never use bleach on ponies myself. One more tip, use cool water to wash factory curls. Hope these help :)

The hair could be discolored as well. I never had Twilight as a kid, so I'm not sure if her hair is supposed to be stark white, or have those strange warm gray tones?

Another option for Twilight could be to look around and post in Customs to see if anyone has an extra Twilight tail or comparable tail. You never know!
