Amazon.com problems, can anyone help?
« on: February 23, 2017, 04:04:48 AM »
Hi, I'm in the UK and am trying to rent a US Amazon Prime film. I have a VPN or whatever they are called.
When I try to pay for the video, it says I need a card that's connected to a US bank. So I thought I'd get a gift card for the US Amazon, which I managed to do with the help of a friend. I thought this would sort the problem, however, I can't now pay for what I'm after with the gift card. Does anyone know a way of getting round this? How can I set it up so it pays with the gift card?

Cheers, Charmer

Have you loaded the gift card onto your Amazon account?

Yeah. If it's showing as a balance on your account you should be able to set it as your primary payment method and then purchase the video

Maybe Amazon is detecting your location and thus refusing to let you buy it due to copyright/licencing in different countries? Some sites do do that to ensure they are keeping within their licence agreements, in which case the link to the US bank account may be their way of making sure you are a US resident. If the address on your Amazon.com account is in the UK, and you don't have a US account attached, that may be the problem?

I know it is possible to get media from other countries to your computer, but I think they've started to crack down on it a bit more.

This is basically what I was thinking. Amazon specifically has had issues in the past where they sold digital things outside of the country where those things were released/published, and they got sued for it. So they may be intentionally making it really complicated to access digital things from other countries. :(
