What are some games that were good for their time, or you loved as a kid, that haven't aged well?

Alien Trilogy, definitely. I was super into the films as a kid and that game scared the living daylights out of me but nowadays it looks incredibly silly, especially when you compare it to Alien Isolation. The xenomorphs are really pixellated and some of them look more like they're doing disco moves than attacking; the music is still pretty good though, in a very 90s kind of a way. :P

Classic EverQuest XD I made the decision to try it out again cause it was what introduced me to my love of mmos... and oh man the graphics, the controls and everything need a major overhaul which they possibly did with EverQuest2 but I haven't checked that out yet. and people complained that WoW's graphics were bad, they at least are going through the trouble of updating their models XD

Phantasmagoria

It's one of the best horror adventure games ever, but if you didn't play it in the 90s you just can't experience it like it was meant to be played. A lot of the creepy stuff back then was subtle - you weren't sure if you really saw something move or not. But with modern graphics and resolutions all of that is lost, the pixels jump out at you and it feels cheap.

It's a shame, because playing it back in the day was one of the best horror gaming experiences I ever had.

The first two generations of Pokemon. Just try dealing with the PC box system on those games and you'll quickly understand.

Oh yes, I remember that pain well! Pokemon goes in, does it ever come out again? You're lucky if it does! XD

I was going to say, pokemon.

If you try to play a past generation after playing a recent one, the graphics off the bat will make you go 'how?'

I don't think Sonic Adventure 1 has aged too well either.  I love that blue hedgehog but the cheesy lines got to me.

I just finished playing Pokemon Blue . . . The biggest flaw is that it takes sooo much grinding to get a viable team.  Also, EXP ALL is annoying because it tells you how much experience each of your six Pokemon got after EVERY BATTLE.  I think it holds up pretty well, though.  Even though the graphics aren't as advanced as later generations, you still find yourself holding your breath when you throw a Pokeball, praying the Pokemon won't break out.

Pokemon Sun & Moon definitely blow every other Pokemon game away in terms of story and graphics, though.  Sooo pretty.

Oh!  And my contribution to the list is Arena, the first Elder Scrolls game.  It's just really generic compared to everything that came afterwards.

The second TES game, Daggerfall, was much more ambitious but it is SO. BUGGY.  I don't think gamers today would be as forgiving of clipping errors that make your character fall through a dungeon floor to the "outside of the game".  It also had a lot of file corruption issues. I lost more save files . . .

The Sims 1 - That games was the best game ever back in the days!! But they evolved the game so much now so in comparison the first version is really stiff and awful.

I used to play Catz 4. :) One of my favorite cats was a crossbreed of a calico and a Persian.

My problem with the first The Sims is that it's so unforgiving. Interacting with other Sims, getting into relationships, getting married it was all so difficult and frustrating in that game. It discouraged me from actually playing the Sims themselves to become a builder.

It took me a long time to actually get back into family play. It was several years later when Seasons was released for The Sims 2 and I found a reason to keep on playing and I was like "Hey, family play isn't all of that hard anymore!".

Agreed on Pokemon -- you HAVE to play those games in order, because with each new release they fix something annoying about the previous gen that you didn't realize was annoying until you go back and try to play it again.

Also agree on Dogz and Catz -- that was my WHOLE LIFE when I was in middle school -- I was on all the forums (or what counted as forums in the late 90s/ early 2000s), doing the breeding and the hex editing and everything... but when I try to play one of those games nowadays I'm like... what is the point?

And I'll add: the original Tomb Raider games. The controls on the old games were TERRIBLE, and now that the new games (PS2 and beyond) have much better controls, it's hard to go back and play the old games.
