So Excited He loves Care Bears!

So when I first got pregnant I was excited to be what I thought was haveing a girl. In fact I was so confinced that I bought all rainbow brite and mlp everything.

Was a little taken back when I found out I was haveing a boy..took me a long time to grasp this. I just didn't know what to do with boys cuz I was only around girls.

Now that he's he's how could I even thought about being disappointed.

He's 6 months old and his favorite toy is Playful Heart Monkey. He loves that yellow color so much..but it's not just that he smiles at care bears no matter what color they are. They make him happy and that makes me happy too cuz I loved care bears almost as much as ponies.

Awww what a cutie! I know what you mean about being a bit taken aback about having a boy when you were so set on a girl. I hope to have a daughter some day, but even if I have a son they're going to be surrounded by superhero toys and ponies!

I think it's great to support a child in whatever they choose.
It's sad to see parents discouraging their children from playing with toys just because they're for boys/girls.

I was convinced I was having a boy until my scan revealed otherwise!

I collected the small plastic Carebears during my childhood "pony days" too - as did some of the boys in my class at school so I always thought them to be gender neutral 

As a baby my girl LOVED a large rubber scary spider that she used to take to bed. Now that she is older, bugs freak her out + she cannot even look at that spider (I blame her Dad who is very bug-averse and teaching her to fear them!)

It doesn't really matter what gender a baby is--they will go for anything they find interesting

Not sure if it's changed since the 80's, but Care Bears were pretty gender-neutral for their time.  They had a good mix of girl/boy characters (though some are rather stereotypical) and at least in the younger demographic during my childhood, equally enjoyed by all kids.  Even if a toy isn't marketed that way, designating one kind of toy for only some kids is silly.

Both me and my brother had care bears when we where babies. And I agree they are gender nutral. I think it's sick how people are so freaked out about boys in pink and hearts ect..

Care bear where never for just girls back in my day. We all played with them we all had them all over our rooms and on our clothes.

Oh he is a Carebear. Just look at that face.  Yep a keeper!  I feel that introducing him to Carebears and MLP is a great idea.  When my nieces were little they were introduced to all things Star Wars by my DH.  They loved him, so they really loved his toy collection as well. They are all girls.

It was sweet to see a little boy at soft-play recently who has a toy baby-doll as his comforter toy, even though he joined in with all the rough and tumble of the mini rugby that some of the dads and other boys were playing

(Also, Smurfs, Get Along Gang, Shirt Tails, Popples, Teddy Ruxpin those were pretty gender neutral shows with awesome stuffies for merchandise...)
