Advice Needed! Removing Mildew Smell from Stuffed Furby

hello!

so, i saw this lil guy for sale, and i felt such a rush of emotion.

the vacant, slightly hopeful look on his face. the misspelled name. his lumpy lil body.

i just had to make sure he would be loved! so i bought him :'-)

he was described as clean, but when he arrived a few days ago, he had a strong mildew smell. he's not a standard furby with electronics inside, just stuffing. so i threw him in the wash to get a few stains out of his ears and see if it would put a dent in the smell.

the stains came out but the smell didnt! i wound up removing the styrofoam pellets inside him in case that was the issue. no dice.

i've since tried washing him with vinegar and soaking him in deodorizer overnight, but i have had no success.

does anyone have any other ideas? i've left him laying out to dry since i'm away for the weekend, but i'd like to keep trying when i get home.

Have you tried baking soda yet? I hear that helps with smells.

Have you tried calling an exorcist? That may be the smell of all the decaying souls it took during the 90s.

All joking (or am I?) aside, perhaps there is a fabric spray that can help get rid of the mildew smell? I second the baking soda.

Try an enzyme pet cleaner meant for upholstery?  After that, I would make up a paste of Simple Green cleaner and baking soda and cake it on several times and gently brush it off/out...
