What Do You Like To Read?
« on: January 16, 2017, 07:16:40 AM »
What do you like to read? I'm getting back into book blogging after taking a couple years off from it, so right now I seem to have books on my mind a lot.

I love YA, romance and fantasy. I'll read most subgenres in these categories. I read a decent amount of non-fiction, too, though I don't tend to blog about it.

Some of my favorite books / series include:

The House of Night series by P.C. and Kristen Cast
The Tiger Saga by Colleen Houck
The Throne of Glass series by Sarah J. Maas
The Nocturne Falls series by Kristen Painter
The Sky is Everywhere by Jandy Nelson
In The Shadow Of Blackbirds by Cat Winters
The Perfect Chemistry trilogy by Simone Elkeles

Some books I'm hoping to read this year:

Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard
And I Darken by Kiersten White
The Shatter Me trilogy by Tahereh Mafi
The Love Interest by Cale Dietrich
Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell
Romancing The Nerd by Leah Rae Miller
Jesse's Girl by Miranda Kenneally

Anyway, I thought it might be fun to see what kinds of book worlds my friends here like to get lost in. :) Anyone else have books they love or that they are looking forward to?

I prefer to write books than read them (did a lot of reading as a kid). Been writing my current one since 16/07/2015!! It's more of a series than a single book.

I read mostly graphic novels and YA Fiction! Sometimes younger than YA honestly. The current series I'm into, Flight Rising, is written for a middle school like audience (think warrior cats but with dragons).

I like all sorts of books! Fantasy, fiction, non fiction. Right now in reading Lauren Graham's new biography.

Recently I subscribed to Litcube. It's a book subscription service. They send one book each month accompanied by some book related goodies. It's a fun little package :)

Apologetics, theology, Star Trek, fantasy books about dragons, health books. I need to find my Lord of the Rings books so I can read through them again.

I prefer horror/thrillers: Dean Koontz, Bryan Smith, Jack Ketchum, Brian Keene, Jack Kilborn.

I'm especially into books with zombies and post-apocalyptic dystopian literature.

I mostly read YA Fantasy, Historical Romance and Fanfics - but I dabble in other areas (including Classics, Histories and whatever else might strike my fancy.)  Some of my favorites include:

Classics
The Secret Garden
Jane Eyre
The Scarlet Pimpernel

YA
Beastly by Alex Flinn
Beauty by Robin McKinley
Percy Jackson (first series) by Rick Riordian

Romances
Julia Quinn novels
Lynn Kurland novels
Lorraine Heath novels

And I read (and write) fanfic for:

Lois and Clark
Once Upon a Time
and General Hospital :)

I love to read! My favorite books are paranormal romances with shifters and vampires. Some favorite authors are Amanda Ashley, Jeanine Frost, and Keri Arthur. I also like some fantasy and other supernatural books. I also like historical romances with favorites from Catherine Coulter and Stephanie Laurens. There are others of course but those are the ones that stick out the most for me.

Fantasy, sci-fi, science books, manga, graphic novels... help! I'm running out of book space! I will try almost any book, but romance is a strict no for me and reading. Just never liked the stuff.

I read mostly fantasy, crime and biographies.

Favorite authors are JRR Tolkien, Anne Bishop, Robin Hobb and George RR Martin.

Right now I am gathering courage to read the new book by Lars Kepler. They are so good, but so creepy. I woke up from nightmares from the previous one. :lookround:

Ghost stories - soooo many ghost stories! They've almost taken up a whole shelf of their own (except for some that are too big to fit with the rest, so they have to go another bookshelf altogether). I'm especially into Susan Hill because she's great at creating an immersive atmosphere without falling into the pit of purple prose. William Hope Hodgson is another favourite, mostly because of Carnacki the Ghost Finder (so much fun!) but his more general horror stories like The Boats of the Glen Carrig and The House on the Borderland are great reads as well.
Outside of that, I really enjoy a lot of Jorge Luis Borges, Haruki Murakami and some of Douglas Coupland's earlier work (Generation X, Shampoo Planet and Life After God) - I tend to find his more recent stuff just ends up groaning under the weight of its own cynicism.
I also enjoy a lot of poetry, my favourites would have to be Helen Mort, Ian Duhig, Charles Bukowski (problematic though it is, I enjoy the down-to-earth feel), John Cooper Clarke, Glyn Maxwell and Jo Shapcott. I've also recently checked out one of Kathleen Jamie's collections and am absolutely chomping at the bit to read more; she has an amazing style!
Sooo yeah, I love me some books! XD

I mostly read dark fantasy, horror, and suspense. Though recently I've been reading new age/spiritual books and it's been a most pleasant change to read things where almost everything is positive and nobody dies.

YA here as well, fiction/sci-fi. My absolute favorite author is Bruce Coville. I've been on a binge lately and have been re-reading his works. I also enjoy the Eragon series by Christopher Paolini. I don't have a lot of books, but I like to re-read what I have over and over again.
