Hello,
Just wanted to share my excitement, there are several people on here I've talked to about my pregnancy and I'd like to update that baby has arrived and it's a little boy!
Alaric was born on Monday 12/12/2016 @ 11:20am. 9LB!
As I've mentioned before, my first child was born in a hospital and the experience was very dehumanizing and traumatic for me, my child and my husband. Because of this we chose to not hire a Dr. or midwife for this pregnancy, birth or post and I was hoping to labor and birth completely alone if possable. I'm very proud to say that I accomplished exactly what I wanted and birthed alone in the dark of my basement while my husband and daughter played upstairs. I'm really proud of myself and really enjoying this whole experience and wanted to share
This was more than just the birth of our child, it also helped us heal from our previous painful experience.
For the record, I know my choices are controversial in many cultures including mine here in the US. Pregnancy and birth are one of the most personal experiences a woman and her family can have and I did what made me feel safest and most comfortable. I fully support every person having as many options as possible and the support to do whatever they need for their unique situation, so I hope no one judges me because I do not judge them.
I am sharing about my solo birth experience because I am proud for doing something that ment so much to me and my family, it was such a important part of this experience for us, and because I want to empower others. Do what feels right for you as a unique person! Never compromise on what you need to feel safe and whole to satisfy culture norms' or the expectations of others.
