Flutter Pony Wings
« on: December 02, 2016, 09:44:30 AM »
Hi Every pony!  I have a question for the restoration experts.  I recently received two really nice flutter ponies with their original wings for a very decent price.  The problem is the wings were at one point glued into the holders and have recently broke off.  Is there any salvaging the wings or holders??  I'm not very savvy on restorations
Thank you aluke for my lovely avatar!!

I had one flutter that came without wings and when I received her she had the bits in the holders that were glued. Since I made reprowings on my own I needed the holders to be free. I used nail polish remover (acetone) to take off the glue, the bits came off alone. It helps to get rid of the glue and some stains. But it takes off the paint too, so be careful with the cuttie marks and the eyes and symbols.

Very helpful!!!  Thank you so much.  I'll try acetone.  They are beautiful and I'd love to be able to put some new wings in them!

I got a Hollywood that had glue in her holders and broken original wings.  I got some nice repro wings from someone on this board that I wanted to use.  Luckily, the glue was in big enough pieces that all I did was get a small pair of pliers and pick them out of the holders.  They came off pretty easily.  I would try that before resorting to acetone, but that's just me!

If you use nail polish remover, use just a little. It works well and you don't need much. Sometimes the glue goes off just with hot water.
