Do we have a standard typical condition reference for G1 Ponies?
« on: December 01, 2016, 04:17:53 PM »
There are so many typical factory errors with G1 ponies.  I am noticing the same things over and over.  For example Whizzer.  Her tail bracket is not placed in the middle of her tail.  After purchasing about 5 or more of these with the same issue I am beginning to wonder if this is just a Whizzer thing.  I was wondering if anyone has kept a list of each pony and typical condition factory issues we will see with them.  Some of these things can't be helped.  I was thinking with some collectors wanting toys of perfection it might be good to know if it is possible even MIB to get what one would call a perfect pony.

I have given up on wanting perfection with my ponies. These toys are so old now that even the perfect ones I had are beginning to change before my eyes.  So, I give up on that idea.

Do we have any kind of "typical factory error/ aging issues" reference list for the G1 ponies at all?  I sure would like to have one.  It would be nice to know that I am probably never going to find a certain pony without a particular flaw.

Wow, looking at that list of ponies recommended to restore, I realized a couple of my old favorites are worth more than I paid for them 2-13 years ago. My mom wouldn't have gotten me Cherry Treats if she was over $10, and Baby Paws for my sister, but they're both on that list, and still in good shape. Yet not nearly as much as some ponies I know are rare that I didn't see on that list, like baby Sandcastle and Shovels and most MOs. Too bad my Chief was too baity to restore, and my Yum Yum has white hair. Though that's the only reason I wanted her, so I'm very happy with a white pony with white hair.

The bait article that I wrote (linked above) really only covers deterioration / aging issues, it doesn't touch on factory flaws - that would be an interesting addition.  Same goes for the 'rare/HTF', it probably needs updating especially considering it's been a long time since I've been seriously deep into the pony buying market.  *feels old*

For me it would be:
Mostly all the ponies in the buttons pose have standing problems, they tend to lean forward.
Same as the ones in the mimic pause. They stand up funny.

Yes I think we need to add these factory flaws in somehow. There are many unrealistic expectations I have had with a couple of ponies and finally realized factory issues were in them all.  I wish I had known that.  Yea I have noticed that all my ponies in certain poses tend to need a small piece of Styrofoam to fix the leg issue so they can stand.  I forgot which pose it was but they are in my cabinet with foam blocks to keep their legs at the right distance from each other. I have tried heat and all sorts of tricks and they always revert back to falling over.

So for the record: Whizzer seems to consistently have the tail metal bracket misplaced by a whole centimeter which cause her tail to look cut.  The only way to fix it would be to remove the bracket and I am not doing that.

Also Baby Apple Delight I have found many of these in the wild and all of them have thin vinyl at the base of the inside of the ear causing a gray like line that eventually breaks. ARGH

My SHS Dainty leans to the left when she manages to stand. Is that common or is that a matter of her legs having been messed with?

Mine does that too, it must be something they're prone to.

They are drunk I think...

I bought 2 NSS Northstar and both have something funny with their standing. Masquerade has not that funny thing going on (and I have 2 too).

Ah, so that's what causes that gray line! I've noticed that on ponies in Ember's pose and wondered exactly what it was. Mystery solved!

Does anyone else have trouble with the Glory pose ponies? Both of my Twilights stand just fine but I have a Glory that doesn't stand up well and as to lean on something. Also my Firefly is leaning a bit.

Pretty much every pose with only three hooves on the ground is prone to squishing/deforming, which can lead to the inability to stand up properly.
