Anime?

I am not much into anime (unless Moomin counts) but I'm currently thinking about rewatching Bagi the Monster of Mighty Nature, after more than 10 years now that I think about it.

I picked up Liz and the Blue Bird today and also Lu Over the Wall.

Watching Saiyuuki. So easy to tell where filler ends and real manga stuff begins because it's so much better written. I enjoy the filler eps, they're fun - especially crack ones like the one when Gokuu is convinced Sanzou has turned into a demon, and the one Hakkai vanishes and leaves them to take care of themselves and Gokuu puts detergent in the rice cooker to clean the rice...but when you get the real story there's much more connection between scenes and ideas and characters and it's just nicer somehow.

and I want the creepy dark Ukoku reveal stuff...and most of all I want the real Hazel, because he comes off as a jerk in Gunlock and I actually really like him in the manga. (and he's not dead -.- and I so want him to come back). I think Gat's friendship with Gokuu is also more explored in the manga, but I can't remember.

Also added a bunch of anime to my list that I will probably never have time to watch.

There seems to be a lot of hate againist filler episodes in the anime community. I don't mind them as long as they aren't recaps or flashbacks of previous episodes. Naruto has so many of those.

One of my least favorite Sailor Moon episodes is the recap/preview on at the end of Season 2  The characters just talk over scenes of episodes and say "Oh, remember when we did this?" "Who could that be? Is that a new enemy?"

There seems to be a lot of hate againist filler episodes in the anime community. I don't mind them as long as they aren't recaps or flashbacks of previous episodes. Naruto has so many of those. 

I think the hate comes more from the purist manga fans who dislike anything not in the manga. I tend to judge filler arcs each on its merit, though. For example, Bleach has a ton of filler arcs. I like a couple, I am not so keen on a couple. It depends on the anime as well. What I don't really like is when a series I've read the manga for takes a manga arc and rewrites the ending. That I don't really like.

All that said, I consider manga to be the canon. Albeit the continuity is the most important thing. So if the filler doesn't contradict the continuity then it's all good. The biggest problem with filler arcs is that the writers cannot develop or reveal anything additional about the character that isn't already known, so sometimes things drag out.

With Saiyuuki, it led to Kou getting injured, then healed, so he could appear in the filler, then injured again so the canon could continue. And in Bleach they broke off in the middle of a manga arc to tell a "story that hadn't been told yet", but the problem with that one was that the timeline was impossible and it couldn't integrate. So that's where there are issues with filler.

What I don't really like is when a series I've read the manga for takes a manga arc and rewrites the ending. That I don't really like.

Yeah, especially if its the ending of the series.

I watched Lu Over the Wall. It's basically a version of The Little Mermaid. It was pretty good although there are a few places where the story twists and the animation style changes drastically. Kai accidently attracts the attention of a young mermaid when he plays music. Lu's tail becomes legs when she hears music. However everyone in town tells Kai that the merfolk are dangerous creatures.

Stephanie Sheh ,the current voice of Usagi/Sailor Moon in the Viz Dub voices one of the characters and she sounds exactly like Usagi/Sailor Moon. Until I looked it up I didn't realize that Stephanie Sheh also voices Mitsuha in the dub of Your Name. When she voices Mitsuha her voice is different than her Sailor Moon voice.

I can't remember if I've seen that one or not...I'm not a huge ghibli fan to be honest, but if you like others then it's probably worth a watch?

Studio Ghibli is kind of hit or miss for me. That being said I have enjoyed most of the ones I've seen so far. I'll give Howl's Moving Castle a try. I found it today for $10.

I liked Howl's Moving Castle.  I thought it was fun.

I like Spirited away, howls moving castle and the cat returns but the other ghibli movies, I didn't like.

I have also been to the museaum in Mitaka, Japan. It was OK but not worth the hype it gets. Plus it was so freakin crowded.

I like both the English sub and dub of this movie, I set myself a challenge when watching the English dubbed version; anytime the said the worlds heart, curse, and witch I had a drink (water)

Studio Ghibi films I like are Howl’s Moving Castle, Spirited Away, Princess Monoke, Kikki’s Delivery Service, and The Cat Returns.

The rest are a big no no.

Ya know, now that I think about it..Ghibli flims are the only ones where I perfer the original Japanese over English Dub. I know its all famous actors, but the voices suck.

I prefer the original English dub of My Neighbor Totoro over the Disney one.
