I just started watching Seven Deadly Sins and am totally hooked!
Ive never been super into anime, I did watch Inuyasha about 13 years ago but just fell away from it. My wife grew up watching Sailor Moon and started collecting the DVDs so we've recently seen a few of those.
Any other recommendations?

Assassination Classroom.  It's hilarious and a bit macabre, but the end of the series was so sweet it made me cry.  I recommend it to everyone.
Ooh I've been really interested in Assassination Classroom. I think I might try the manga first, though? Any thoughts on that?

I'm currently 3/4 through my 4 (5?) Rewatch of my fave anime Revolutionary Girl Utena. I plan to watch Tiger and Bunny and Made in Abyss afterwards. I watched Houseki no Kuni and The Ancient Magnus Bride last fall but didn't haven't gotten into anything for spring

I've not read the manga so I don't know how it compares.

It is soooo good!

I just watched Mary and the Witch's Flower and that was pretty good, too! It definitely had a Studio Ghibli feel.

I think Your Name is going to be one of my favorite anime movies. :)  I still need to watch In This Corner of the  World and Up From Poppy Hill. Is Satalite Girl and Milk Cow anime? I don’t think that one really interests me though.

Yes, and Miazaki (sp?) was consulted on the making of the film so he's in the credits. When I saw that their logo looked a lot like the Ghibli logo I had to look it up. :)

I just watched In This Corner of the World. It was rough. Maybe not as bad as Grave of the Fireflies, but still pretty brutal. I kinda want to try to read the manga again. I had started it before but stopped reading because I didn't really like the art style.

I also just watched In This Corner of the World. I liked it for the most part but it is brutal in parts. I feel like it sort of lulls you into forgetting that it takes place during World War II and then suddenly reminds you of that fact in very dramatic ways. And there were several things that happened I wasn't expecting.

There were also a couple of scenes I had to rewatch to see if I saw what I thought I saw. Like in the very beginning when Suzu sees the hungry girl peeking down at them through a hole in the ceiling.  And that one scene right at the end of the movie was a little too graphic for me.

I think I'll rewatch it from time to time but it won't get as many repeat viewings as some of my other anime movies.

My copy came with a little preview book of the manga. It was interesting to read after watching the movie but I'm not sure if I want to read the whole manga.

Yeah that scene at the end made me wonder why the movie was only rated PG-13. But I guess it might be good for kids (older kids) to see the movie to understand the history. Maybe the parents could just turn it off right before the end?

I started watching Spirit Pact too in my random Crunchyroll viewing but I didn't get into it really yet. I will probably go back to it as my anime watching is always dictated by my current mood and what appeals to me as a result...sometimes I am more interested in magical type things, sometimes slice of life...

I agree about it being Chinese - but I am guessing it could be Taiwanese?

I did see a couple of episodes of magical girl Ore which is possibly the most crack thing I've seen all year but maybe just too crack for me to take it seriously enough to actually watch it all...
Though I did watch the whole of the Mummy anime...so...who knows?
I kinda feel like something got lost in translation with Spirit Pact. Its not the greatest of stories but I still liked it.

I have less then 40 episodes of Naruto left to go.
Not sure how I feel about having finished almost 700 episodes and like 15 movies in less then a year...

I thought the film did a pretty good job of depicting the tragedy of war appropriately for the film's rating except for that scene at the end and for a little of the dialouge (more of a surprise that it went in to that much detail about what happened to the victims) I like that the film is told completley from the Japanese perspective.

I agree that if parents are letting their kids watch this they probably need to turn it off before that scene. I think the animators could have accomplished the same effect they were going for without being quite that graphic. I will be skipping over that scene myself when I rewatch the movie.
