Galaxy, my Genie custom (Pic heavy!)
« on: November 19, 2016, 04:28:50 PM »
Wow, it's been a couple years since I posted in here, huh?  Well, I've never claimed to be a fast customizer! ;)

Today I'm sharing a custom I'm quite proud of - my pastel Galaxy Genie pony!

I created her using a bait I bought through the Genie custom contest, which recently ended! I placed third, which I was ecstatic about, given that I didn't dye her like many of the beautiful entries did! My concept for her was one of my favorite aesthetics, the 'galaxy print', with a twist; I wanted to accentuate the paleness of the white glitter body, so I made it a pastel galaxy! I'm super happy with how she turned out, especially since she's my first attempt at painting a galaxy!!

I tried to mirror the galaxy paint in her irises (although it's small, so it's tough to see!), and I outlined her eyes/pupils in dark purple, instead of black, to give her a softer look.

Big hair, don't care! ;)

Because she came to me with split hair plugs (as many of the Genie baits did, so I hear), I thought a brushed-yarn mane and tail would be the best way to remedy/mask that, which inspired me to try the galaxy paint! I tried to make some of the galaxy paint match up with the colors in her mane, but I forgot to get a close-up of it when I had my nice backdrop set up!

Thanks for reading! I'm honestly so, so proud of her, she's definitely one of my favorite customs to date! Now I got the itch to make lots more galaxy ponies!!

She is so perfect! I love the pastel hipster sort of color scheme that she has along with the totally wild hair. :D

Aww, thank you so much!! You know, it's funny, I actually bought tiny sponges (embossing sponges, I think? they're like the size of an eraserhead!) because I thought you HAD to sponge-paint galaxy/gradient work... and then I saw a tutorial video in which someone sponged on very lovely galaxy paint with a paper towel! :O And I thought, HEY! So I tried it with cotton balls, and it worked great!! I highly recommend some non-standard art methods and experimentation for the galaxy print! ;)
