I need to rant about Paypal
« on: November 09, 2016, 07:49:39 PM »
Welcome pony friends! Let's listen to a HUUUUUUGE rant about Paypal from DazzleKitty!

I just really need to blow off some steam. I don't really think you can help because I have spent my entire evening on the phone with Paypal and got.....nothing resolved!

So as some of you know, a tragedy happened in my family. I got a rather large beneficiary check from a family member, and have another one coming. I figured.....hey, let's do a little pony buying. I made a budget. Put it in my NEW bank account  (the huge majority in savings), as I have been getting paid on a pay card for years and am getting ready to switch to direct deposit on this new account. This paycard has SUCKED. It's a long story as to why I have been using it.....but I started with it and fell into tradition. Big check came, and I opened account. New beginning.

So I linked my new bank account with Paypal. Got to the two deposits. Confirmed it. Apparently, Paypal was having some glitches because later in the day it was asking me to confirm it with the amounts AGAIN.

I don't even know where to start with this story.

Firstly, I am buying some stuff for myself that requires a large amount of money to be sent at one time. My debit card will not allow me to send more than a certain sum of money per day. So.... I ask Paypal if I can use my bank account to pay. The account specialist says no, because I have had too many declined payments. I have only had TWO recently, and they got fixed fast because of a blunder on my STUPID paycard. The woman brushed me off like I was some kind of villian, and hung up the phone fast. Apparently she figured she was going to get chewed out.   So, I called back and demanded a supervisor. She told me something different. It wouldn't pay with my bank account because I didn't have a card on file. I took my card off, because it would always take a card as a default payment for sending money, not a bank account. But without a card on file and just trying to pay with my bank account, it says add a new payment option. Ugh.

In the end, I just wanted to set up my bank account as the default method of payment, so I can pay for these ponies these sellers have been graciously holding for me. One of them is my ULTIMATE grail. And I want to scream. It's like....nothing can go smoothly. Just set up my bank as the default way of paying so I can PAY for these items and go on! I verified with several security questions it was indeed ME. But no, they keep on coming up with excuses as to why they cannot do it.

I don't even want to talk to their customer support anymore because they are stupid. One person tells me something, a supervisor tells me another. In the end, it's just a bunch of idiots. I wonder if there is a language barrier, because where I am calling is obviously not the US. They all seem to understand English well enough.  I just wish there wasn't this language barrier. We could get our points across clearer. Apparently one girl, who was on the phone with me earlier in the night, got my American jokes and was laughing. I was in good spirits then because I was about to purchase my main grail. By the end of the night, I was fried.

I need a bit of retail therapy. Things are frustrating at home and I want my dang ponies! I don't know what to do. And I tried adding my card again after taking it off, so I can pay my sellers in increments. Now it's not taking my card. Probably for security reasons after so much being done to my account.

I seriously want to wave the flag and give up.

I would recommend go through paypal on facebook. There is some lag time but everything is writen down as proof. It only took me a few hour to get escalated (i had to state the same question over and over as the customer rep tried avoiding the question every time. It took 10 days for the higher being to read through my complaints but they sorted it instantly one they got round to it. So yes there is a time wait but easier than waiting on the phone and getting no where

I talked to someone else today.....someone who actually speaks my language as a first language. She said it can be 3-4 days for a new bank account to be officially  confirmed and me to be able o use it as a payment method. . I just hope she told me the truth.

Yeah.... banks unfortunately take days to get things worked out.  Nothing moves instantly with Paypal, despite what they advertise....

So......likely what the day person told me (the one who speaks my language), is telling me the truth? Because I got like.....three different excuses.

Funny thing is, I just bought something from a website, and it gave me the option to pay with my bank. I got all excited and tried to send a payment through Paypal to another Paypal member and.....it still only lets me use my card.

Nhal, do you think going through Paypal on Facebook may get my bank approved faster? How do you do this?

Mmm i dont think it will speed things up just save you repeating yourself over and over, i believe for all complains/ queries a paper trail is super important to get the correct info and sorted.
If you search for paypal on faceback you will find them. Just sent them a message and they will get back to you, just dont put in personal details until they ask. Also just know that if you comment on there page you will get scammers trying to trick u into thinking they are paypal, they will friends request you with paypal offical etc (real paypal wont do this and the scammers always have spelling mistakes) and ask for you credit card details. Real Paypal  doesnt ask these details unless needed and they do it in a secure way (like not ask for numbers and such that people can access your funds).

Just be sure to ask them the same quesrion and make sure your quesrion is anwsered if the basic custimer service cant help you they will escalate your questuon to people high that have the power to access your info directly. In my case they only ever asked for a transaction number (i was dealing with return post issues for an item not described), they credited my account without need my email address or other details

I had no idea.  I actually figured it out myself and just have them my email address in a private message. I was hoping it would speed things up.  I will be sure to watch out for scammers.

Oh my goodness my head is swimming in goo just reading that. I can't believe they are doing that.  I have no idea how to fix it, but I would be so upset as well.  Good grief.  I am truly sorry that this is going on.  Hopefully it will get fixed soon.

I know situations when everything seems to be blocking, and found the way for myself to switch into seeing the possibilities one actually has. In this case, have you tried to send money to your Paypal account from your bank account? From how I know Paypal, they always use balance money first which is on the Paypal account, so this way it would make the money avaibalble which you currently have on your bank account.

Tried that, they are blocking it because it's a large amount.

I think I FINALLY got a logical, REAL answer from am agent today. He pulled my history. Normally I'd never spend anything over a couple hundred dollars. Then suddenly, I tried sending something over a thousand dollars. They saw this as a security precaution and promptly blocked me from being able to use my bank account. So, he said they essentially protecting me from myself.

To those of you awaiting payment from me, my dad may let me use his credit card and withdraw the cash to give him tomorrow. I would today, but it's Veteran's day and a holiday here. Otherwise I'd be withdrawing the cash now.

I feel this is the most logical answer I have gotten.

Oh that is a good idea.  Yea I guess I can see that they are seeing a huge change in your spending habit and like credit card companies sometimes do...they call me and say did you just spend this amount at this store.  I will let them know.  The thing that makes no sense is if you are proving it is your account they should lift the block.  This makes no sense to me that they won't do that.

So a couple different things:

1. It does take a few days for your bank account to get verified.

2. Add your card, but when you're checking out just change it to your bank or e-check

I think that adding and removing your card is sending red flags to paypal. I think all the back and forth is hurting you at this point.
And the fact that its a brand new account with so much activity is making them flag you.
I hope it works out soon :(

I don't think Dazzle's paypal account is new by any means.  I think what is new is the bank account she is trying to link to it.  I add and remove cards all of the time on my paypal account and they have never prevented me from doing a transaction.  I think Dazzle's issue was the amount of funds she needed to pay out. It was higher than normal for her regular spending habits which sent up a red flag probably related to the concern of fraud.  I think that is how I understood it. ;)  Honestly, for an established account this seems like a very unfair issue especially when she has called and verified her own transactions.  Even a credit card company would comply after that action.

This concerns me a bit, what if I want to make a rather large purchase some day?  Am I going to have to transfer funds in small amounts over a series of weeks before I am ready to make my purchase?

I suspect that you're falling foul of the huge number of internet scams out there. I don't mean you're being scammed, but because companies are so paranoid about them, they put in place security measures that trip over themselves and make genuine customers have issues with just using their service as it was originally intended. I had my bank once stop one of my accounts because they determined that two payments I made to two different locations were 'suspicious'. Of course, they failed to tell me they stopped the account and I only found out when I tried to pay a customs fee and it came up not possible. So then I called them and they said, oh yeah, we stopped it to protect you from fraud. I was not amused, since they could have sent me a letter at the very least.

Paypal have got so big in recent years this seems like the same kind of thing. They're trying to help but in doing so, they're not being helpful. I'd keep persevering. I wonder whether your new account has the option of a visa debit card with it? If so, that works on paypal as a credit card, because it's VISA, but it takes it from your account even though it takes it off the card. If that makes sense. I don't know what the banking arrangements are in the US for stuff like that, but if they want a card, a card directly linked to this account seems to be the way to go...

Though they should ok it once they've had confirmation from you that it's legit.

My dad let me use his credit card and I payed him the cash and was able to make the purchase. But if you only make small purchases with Paypal as your history, they won't let you suddenly make a large purchase. I think this sucks on Paypal's side because what if you need your bank to make the large purchase? Not everyone has a credit card. I don't.

At least I was able to get my ponies.
