Sealing Glitter on a Custom
« on: September 29, 2016, 03:31:23 PM »
Hey there!

I'm working on a custom pony, and was wondering what you all suggest for sealing glitter.

The pony is a vinyl Funko figure, and the mane and tail are covered in extra fine, iridescent glitter. I want to seal it to prevent flaking off while preserving as much of the sparkle as possible.

I'm thinking spray sealant would be the best choice, but would love to hear what you all suggest from past experience.

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

As long as you don't mind it being super shiny I use Triple Thick by DecoArt

Thanks for the tip, Darkhorse!  I'll see if I can find some at the craft store this weekend.

I second the triplethick! It will make the pony have a VERY shiny finish, but I've often found that this only adds to the sparkle. :p but it will also create a very nice smooth texture. In my experience TripleThick might be thick, but it's pretty good at self leveling. :) vs something like mod podge. It's usually sold in the same area as mod podge in most craft stores.

I don't have much luck with spray sealers personally

I third Triple thick, though personally I need to get a new batch of it as mine is so old I had to add water to it xD
But I now have to wonder, how do you apply the TT to glitter when it's a large area to cover XD
My DeviantArt, why not drop by and take a look!

I would just kinda dab it on, no brushing, or I think it would start moving the glitter lol. I usually use glitter paints instead of straight glitter though, (the paints are similar to puff paints, where the glitter is already more or less sealed in) so I cant be 100% sure
