FS Wing clipping [pics]

Hi!

I've ALWAYS wanted to custom a style size G4, I've always loved them.. everything except the wings of pegasus xD.

I was SURE that I saw a tutorial on how to cut down their wings to look more like the normal smaller counterparts.
Or maybe it was just a post that someone made showing their process? Anyway if anyone knows what I'm talking about, and where this post is, I would love to look at that again!

Meanwhile Ill just continue my search. :p

So I decided to just go for it, it really wasnt so hard after all, apart from me not having nearly the right tools for the job lol. I think this would go so much easier with an X-Acto and a dremel, or at least thinner bits of sandpaper.

So here is our poor victim, Sorry Fluttershy. :c

Rough Cut, the sharpest knife I had was a utility/box cutter. Which was probably best for these first cuts, because the plastic is so much thicker. An x-acto would probably be easier for the second part though.

I just shaved thin pieces off to make it look as natural as I could. Its a little annoying that the mold for the back of the wing doesn't match up with the mold for the front, xD so Im going to have to figure that out later...

I used various grit of nail files, (it was all i had) I feel like actual sheets of sandpaper would have worked much better at getting into corners, so ill probably pick some of that up.

I still have to do more sanding and cleaning up on the wings once i get better materials. But I'm happy with how they look. I wish they weren't so "upright" but its better than they were I guess lol.

Sounds interesting, but I haven't seen something like that! I have removed wings completely from the brushable size by cutting them off and sanding, but I haven't seen a reshaping tutorial for the styling size. Please share if you find it!

Do you mean the fashion style size ponies? If so, simply boiling them in hot water should loosen the glue enough to pull the wings off.

If you mean the even larger styling size, I'm afraid I'm no help.  Sorry.

Do you mean the fashion style size? I don't remember ever seeing a tutorial, but I remember seeing a custom with the wings cut short. I can't remember who/where I saw it but I THINK they used an exacto to cut away one of the top layer of feathers and sandpaper to smooth the shape...but I also think it was painted later so I don't know if there was any leftover stress marks. Let me see if I can find that custom.

Yeah I couldn't remember if it was a tutorial or if it was just pictures someone posted as "wip" xD I've looked EVERYWHERE! But I think i'll just wing it.... uh.. no pun intended? xD I hate the way the FS wings look also. I'll just get an exacto and experiment, if it goes wrong... well.. I still have an earth pony lol.

OK so I went ahead and just experimented with a fluttershy and it seemed to go pretty well. I posted pictures along the way. Maybe it will help someone.

I love it! Looks like you did a great job sanding/sculpting the wings.
