Solved - Tenko and the Guardians of the Magic
« on: September 19, 2016, 12:11:37 PM »
So there was this doll I got as a child and another from the same line I had REALLY wanted. I have on idea what they were though and all I have is a vague description to go off of, and it tends to bother me every few months. I would really like to just see them again. So hopefully someone will recognize them?

This was around 1996/1997ish I believe. Based on circumstances that happened around the event I'd go with November/December 1996 being most likely.

She had back hair that reached to I think mid-lower back and bangs, pale skin. I think he shoes were molded/painted on but I'm not 100% sure.

The dress was too small for my Princess Gwenevere and the Jewel Riders Dolls, but too big for my Sailor Moon dolls. I believe she was closer in size to the Sailor Moon dolls though, a bit taller. It looks like the Sailor Moon dolls were the 6" 1995 Irwin ones.

The two I had liked in particular in one she had a pink ballgown type dress with some glittery tulle like fabric.

The one I had was an orange dress with a flower petal like cut to her skirt. It was a mix of a metallic orange and a darker orange tulle type fabric. The one thing that sticks out in my mind is I never understood her accessories. She came with a clear box. Inside that box was a purple block, that had at least one hole that had been drilled through all the way to the other side.

I believe they were sold on blister cards, not boxes. For some reason I think the packaging was blue/teal/purple but it's fuzzy.

Anyone remember something like this? Because so far I know I don't have enough to find her on my own (trust me I've tried).

Seriously lol. I'm completely floored. I still can't close my mouth from the level of utter shock that someone not only figured it out, but figured it out that fast.

Thank you so much!

I'm super glad you did. I think I'm down to about 2 mysteries of my childhood now? Maybe you can answer one of the other two actually. What was that box she came with for? It still perplexes me.

It may have been a magic trick.  Check out this link. http://www.darah.com/collection/tenko/toyguide.asp

I never knew about these dolls.  They're rather interesting.

I Googled the name and found out there was a cartoon. On its Wikipedia entry I may have found the meaning of the box!

"Impressed by her abilities, the master names the young magician "Princess Tenko" in recognition as his successor as the next Tenko and the Master Guardian of the Tenko Box, a magical wardrobe that contains many magic gems known as the Starfire Gems."

I also found a toy guide, which is pretty cool.  I love the snow leopard!

Edit: Great minds Google alike xD

So it looks like the magic trick in question is the magic rope trick. I wonder how that worked?
