Godzilla! Godzilla!

I know I'm the only really big Godzilla fangirl here on the forums, but I still like the share the news. I posted about it months ago before it was released, but in July 2016, a brand new japanese Godzilla film was released.

Funimation has claimed distribution rights to the film in the US. Shin Godzilla (originally Godzilla Resurgence) will hit theaters for a one week only theatrical release in October. There will also be a special premiere for NYCC and an early theater showing in LA and NYC.

I am beyond stoked. If you haven't seen the new godzilla, here's a look at the beast:

The film was directed by Hideaki Anno, famous for the anime series Neon Genesis Evangelion. The soundtrack for Godzilla is also composed by the same person behind NGE's soundtrack (and let me tell you, I love the OST for this film!). The movie has been highly praised and made billions in japan (in yen that is), quickly becoming one of the highest grossing Godzilla films. This godzilla is also now the tallest on record, outranking the most recent american godzilla's height. One think I enjoyed learning is that this film not only takes allegory from the Hiroshima bombing, but also the fukushima disaster from 2011. And fear not, those who dislike rubber suits, this godzilla is all CGI. It was actually done with motion capture!

"It’s a peaceful day in Japan when a strange fountain of water erupts in the bay, causing panic to spread among government officials. At first, they suspect only volcanic activity, but one young executive dares to wonder if it may be something different… something alive. His worst nightmare comes to life when a massive, gilled monster emerges from the deep and begins tearing through the city, leaving nothing but destruction in its wake. As the government scrambles to save the citizens, a rag-tag team of volunteers cuts through a web of red tape to uncover the monster’s weakness and its mysterious ties to a foreign superpower. But time is not on their side—the greatest catastrophe to ever befall the world is about to evolve right before their very eyes."

What do you think? Are you interested in seeing the film? Rather wait for a DVD release? There's lots of opinions out there due to the new design and darker direction. I spoiled the whole film for myself early and I'll be getting my tickets very soon!!

Thanks to my husband, I actually love Godzilla. He got me into watching the movies when we started dating 11 years ago.

I just saw this news posted on Facebook and I can't wait to tell the hubby when he gets home from work! He was hoping this would get a theatrical release.

I'm pretty sure I remember when you posted about this before. I will definitely be seeing it on DVD -- I don't go to movie theaters anymore, but I can't wait to see it when it's available on disc!

I don't like Godzilla but my BF is the biggest godzilla fanboy I have ever seen.
Too bad he will be visiting me in Tokyo while Godzilla is showing in the USA 
I will take him to a hotel in Shinjuku that has a godzilla on it, that should ease his pain a bit.

Ah yes the Gracery hotel! If only I could stay there, I watched videos of the "godzilla room" they have and I really like that there's a restaurant you can dine in right by godzilla's big ol' head.
There's a Toho Cinema right below it isn't there? Maybe he can just watch it without subtitles if it's still airing in Japan by that time

I looked into seeing about one of those rooms but its like $500 a night 
Unless I can find a job in the next month, no godzilla room for him. I have no idea if there is a theater there or not. Wasn't the movie released here several months ago? I've been searching for other godzilla themed things around but not finding anything.

Oh! I always wondered how much it would cost to actually stay in that room 

It came out at the end of July, but I saw a news report that the film was almost up to $60mil in ticket sales so I thought it might still be showing there.
I know there's some pop up art and exhibits around for the new movie, but I don't know where it all is. I follow an American living in Japan on tumblr who goes to see a lot of these things, that;s how I know about most of them.
The only other Godzilla thing I know of is a giant slide in Yokosuka

Japan was my intended destination but I somehow ended up teaching in China instead but that contract ended and I didnt resign.
I used to live in Alaska too, for several years but that was before you joined the arena  I went to the University of Alaska - Fairbanks.
And then there was the year I spend working at the Grand Canyon...

I was hoping there would be one of those temp resturants for Godzilla but I didn't find anything like that.  He would be estactic if it was still playing next month but I have no idea how to even find out if it is or not.
