Customizing playsets- tips, tools, picture share?

So I have some TLC playsets and pieces I wanna customize- like for example an extra PE room, or a nursery or stable.

What kind of paints do you use? Is spray paint from the hardware store okay?
Has anyone ever glued, drilled or done any other "hard" modifications to playsets?
Do I need to seal the new paint so it doesn't transfer to ponies?

Please share some custom playset transformation pictures for inspiration!

Sorry that I don't have any advice to give... but I'm really interested in hearing about your progress! I can't remember their username right now but didn't someone repaint the castle to be silver?

There have been a couple of really fabulous ones!  I hope people share photos.  I remember someone did a stone finish on the Dream Castle.  Someone else did a candy version of the Pretty Parlour with new stickers and accessories. I think I also remember a cool Halloween themed playset.  :)

So I made a lot of progress in a short amount of time (getting it ready for our local pony meet this Saturday). It's actually like almost done, I'm just decorating it now!

Here's my customized PE room and a little story I'm making up about it:

What a night last night! Cool Breeze arrived late at Sea Beeze's island cabana, and they started partying, Breeze Style! Tropical Breeze should be in by breakfast, and the other tropical ponies should arrive on the afternoon party boat! This weekend is going to be a blast!

Aren't the playsets made of ABS plastic? I would google "how to paint ABS plastic" if I were you.
