Hello,

I have a few unfinished customs I'm trying to complete, and I need help figuring out the right hair colors for this one. I want to do two tone curls to match her eyes.

For some reason she's showing up a bit lighter than she is in real life...

two shades of gold, like her eyes. I'm looking at the dolly hair website now, but it's so confusing! I think I've narrowed it down to Buttercreme, Butterscotch, Golden Sun, Butter Pecan, and Carrot Cake....but I only have enough funds for two colors.

I think she would look great with a multi blend of colors.  You could always order two skeins of the custom blend...that way you could technically get 4 colors for the price of 2.

If you did that, I think I would go with Butterscotch mixed with Chocolate Pudding AND Lucky Clover mixed with Poison Ivy.  FYI - When she "custom blends" the hair for you, the sections easily separate by color.  I would probably mix all the colors together really well and then re-hair with no discernible pattern.

I agree with cookhuman, a blend is a good way to get extra color in there. The butterscotch and golden sun could be a nice blend. I think the golden sun and honeysuckle would also look really nice. I was going to suggest something like a golden sun/honeysuckle blend with a lucky clover. I feel like mixing poison ivy with lucky clover could make the green too dark, but might be personal preference on my part. If I was going to do a blend with lucky clover, I'd probably do something paler to match closer to the inside of the symbol since the pony's body is fairly dark to begin with. But you also said you were thinking all golds, so the whole lucky clover thing is just a random idea.

But really in the end, it's what looks good to you. Sometimes what I do when I'm picking out colors off dollyhair for a specific pony. I grab my color pencils and guestimate which best look like the hair colors I'm thinking about. Then I do some test combos on a spare piece of paper til I find one I like.

Personally, I'd go with a matching minty green, creamy white, and the lightest rose pink possibly in the classic set of two repeats of the three stripes. I prefer pinstripes and maybe soft curls as opposed to ringlets or straight.

Wait, so the custom blends are still in chunks of color? They aren't mixed completely?

Okay so this a is a blend of Gingerbread and Butter Pecan that I plan to use on a custom for my husband.

As you can see, while mixed, it's not fully blended and you can pick colors out clearly.

Yeah. I do this a lot. It works out great when you need multiple colors for one pony. I do recommend getting the most different colors put together though, so you can easily tell them apart.
