Do we know yet where we get the evolution items?

Pokestops. There may be an increased chance of getting one from the first spin you make on the 7th day of a streak, but that doesn't guarantee you anything. I got a Metal Coat on my 7th day streak spin, but then I got another Metal Coat two days later after I had been to several stops.

So this took me months Dragonites don't seem to spawn where I am, but Dratinis do. So, I walked my very first Dratini a long time, collected Dratinis when I saw them, and finally yesterday hatched one which surprised me with a lot of candy, allowing me to finally evolve this guy!

I'm happy to join the Dragonite club now, lol. I had already also planned to evolve two Eevees yesterday, so I did these guys yesterday. Umbreon looks so cool! Espeon seems to be a glass cannon, but I can power her up so she has more HP.

I am seeing a TON of sentrets, and our local Costco seems to be a nest for them; I probably catch 7 every time I'm there, minimum!

There are quite a few Sentrets out, aren't there?! I like them better than Rattatas, but I find them hard to catch. (Then again, these days I find it a little challenging to get great throws, as I'm getting used to the new Pokeball physics. Still.) I love Furrets so I don't mind the Sentrets.

I'm walking with Scyther first though, since I have two Metal Coats. Still kinda mad that I could've used a Kings Rock, Dragon Scale or Sun Stone but nope! I ended up with two Metal Coats.

It would be cool if evolution item trading (not to mention Pokémon trading) was a feature -- I'd  take one of those off your hands. (All I have so far to trade though is an Upgrade, lol, but hopefully I'll get more in the future)

Has anyone gotten party hat Pikachu yet? I got one yesterday afternoon and haven't seen another since. So far this isn't anywhere near what the Christmas Pikachu event was like. Those were spawning everywhere then!

I really really hope Pikachu with a hat isn't the only event planned for Pokémon Day...

Thanks!  And yeah, I haven't seen any yet, which surprises me. I'm sure I will before the end of the event, but I'm a little puzzled over why the spawn rates apparently haven't increased.

Newb question: do you always have to be online in some fashion? I downloaded this game the other day. Today, I went out of my house and out of wifi range, and the app stopped working and said out of Internet range.

Yes. If you don't have a data plan, or have a very limited amount of data to use, then playing with a WiFi connection would be your only option.

Also, check with your phone provider, haha, some of them are offering special data programs that don't count playing  pokemon go against your data limits.

Something tells me that they didn't increase Pikachu spawns for this "event". That's a shame, because I know people who don't ever see Pikachu at all due to their biome.

Over the weekend I was able to catch another Cyndaquil, and I hatched a Charmander which gave me enough candies to finally get a Charizard! Also, my highest achievement: I GOT A GYRADOS! I had an awesome Magikarp that I had as my walking buddy ever since they introduced the buddy system. I walked 62km with it, hatched quite a few Magikarp, and then I caught 3 Magikarp in a row while walking the other day, which gave me enough to evolve. So I'm pretty close to completing the Gen 1 dex.

There was a Dragonite in the wild and a Party Pikachu at my closest Pokestop (to my apartment) on my way to work this morning.
