Item broken during shipping?

I bought a vintage MLP book with its record on ebay. It came today and I am so bummed. It got wrecked by the post office. The record is broken and the book has holes through several pages. It looks like they dropped something heavy on it. I don't think it's the sellers fault as they wrapped it in bubble wrap and then hard cardboard. Whatever they dropped must have been very heavy as it punctured the outside cardboard too.
I'm so upset since this is a vintage item and now it's wrecked. What do I do now? Any help would be appreciated.

Was it shipped insured or Priority?  If not, you may be outta luck.  Super big bummer.

It says first class. I never even thought of having it insured. I've bought 2 other books with records and they arrived fine.

I'm so sorry the record and book were damaged. I really like the read a long books too and I would be really upset if that happened to me.  I hope you can work something out with your seller.

Sounds like it was shipped in such a way that it went through the envelope sorters.... AUGH

Lovesbabysquirmy-do the envelope sorters punch down on them? That's what it looks like.
I contacted the seller and sent him pictures. He offered to refund the cost of the item and I could keep it. I just paid for shipping basically.

Well, there *are* rollers on the conveyor belt in sorting.... I imagine at some point on the belt there are "guide rods" that probably could puncture an envelope....

Aw sorry to hear!  I buy vintage kids books all the time and have never had a problem like that!  Especially if was bubble wrapped and reinforced.  Who knows what the PO did to it :/
