Who is this doll?
« on: May 14, 2016, 02:59:15 PM »
I found this doll at the thrift store yesterday, and despite scouring the internet I couldn't find any information on her.

She is a 1970 Horsman doll. Height is approximately 13"; she is made of plastic and has flat feet.

Wow, what a pretty little girl!!! I don't recognize her but I'd have brought her home, too! :lovey:
Does she have any markings at all on her body/ head? Any of her clothes have any tags?

Her head is marked 1970 (or 1979, it's difficult to tell) - Horsman Dolls Inc., and then the number 18. Her body is also stamped with the manufacturer's name, and 'T13F'. I was unable to find any tags / tag remnants on her clothing. Mom thinks they're homemade.

EDIT: After a few more Google searches, I found a few on eBay that look just like her - only difference is their clothing and hair styles. At this point, I wonder if she was just a generic doll that wasn't part of any specific line. *scratches head* All of the dolls were said to be found at estate sales.

EDIT AGAIN: One of said dolls is wearing a dress that has identical lace to hers. Her dress must have been manufactured, and just wasn't tagged.

Horsman so rarely tagged anything they made.  Lucky she's marked, Horsman actually got slapped in the 1930's-1940's because they sued another company for basically recasting their dolls, but because the Horsman company was SO bad at marking anything, the claim was tossed out because the dolls in question weren't stamped so there was no way to trace whether the dolls came from the official Horsman plant or were being made at another plant.  Fun fact!  She's cute!

Here's one of my ( unmarked and super rare ) Horsman girls who is a bit older than your's:

Huh, I never knew that! Makes me wonder how many unmarked Horsman dolls I've run across without realizing who the manufacturer was. Your gal is beautiful!
